The Dragon Bellow Conspiracy, Chapter 5

The 5th chapter begins in Lord Noriyuki's room when a Ninja sneaks in and explains to him the conspiracy. This Ninja is in actuality Chizu, Shingen's sister. Noriyuki then prepares his warriors to ride into battle and sends a messenger to the Shogun.

At the fortress, the battle is raging and Usagi is looking for Tomoe. She discovers the attack and sees her chance to escape in the confusion. Lord Tamakuro learns of the attack as well and secures the armory without which his rebellion would fail.

The ninjas are able to breach the central tower, and Tomoe then hears Usagi battlecry and goes to him. They fight off Tamakuro's forces side-by-side. Elsewhere, Gen and Zato-Ino are fighting off Tamakuro's men when Ino smells some black powder and takes a shot intended for Gen, thus saving his life.

When Gen sees what has occured, he is enraged and avenges Ino. Meanwhile, the ninjas are not able to get past the armory's guards and the tower is secure again. Usagi is nearly killed by Takohana (see chapter 3) but a ninja saves him. Usagi then faces Captain Torame in a duel and kills him.

Tomoe regroups with Usagi, and Gen then comes in and tells Usagi them that the attack has failed and that they must get out. Inside the armory, Lord Tamakuro is happy that he has won, but Shingen, not quite dead, is able to strike his flint and ignite the black powder to destroy the fortress. The fortress explodes.

The ninjas end the alliance with Usagi and go their own way, while Usagi learns from Gen that Ino is shot and that Spot remained with him. The storm is finally over as the conspiracy's menace is finished.
