Young Usagi Yojimbo is keen to learn the way of bushido, and he would be
more enthusiastic of only Katsuichi sensei didn't prattle on all the time
about the warrior codes and honour. Besides, Katsuichi sensei's method of
teaching isn't quite what he expected at all, the lump on his head proves
it.
Returning from gathering wood one day, Usagi sees an opportunity to match
his sensei lump for lump and hits the sleeping form of Katsuichi sensei. The
boy is horrified however, when he sees his master's brain begin to ooze from
beneath his hat and he faints. Upon awakening, he finds that his master has
turned into a vengeful gaki who pursues him to the edge of a cliff with the
express purpose of making a meal of the boy. Terrified, Usagi falls from the
clif and keeps falling...
Katsuichi, returning from bathing in the stream, rouses the unconscious
boy, who faints again upon spying his sensei. Baffled by the boy's
behaviour, he is just as baffled as to why the pumpkin he left under his hat
is ruined.
