Lord Noriyuki and Tomoe stay overnight in Ikeda's home; though Ikeda
is torn by his loyalties, he agrees to guide the pair on a remote mountain
road.
Lord Kotetsu waits impatiently for Kitanamono to return with Grasscutter;
as Usagi chases Ryoko's familiar, he runs into some of Kotetsu's samurai,
kills them, and faints (with fatigue) at the sight of Gen.
Inazuma wakes, and learns from Priest Sanshobo that the figure in her
dream was one of the two who brought her to the temple.
Next morning, as Ikeda and his son Motokazu set out with Tomoe and
Noriyuki for the mountain road, both Noriyuki and Tomoe puzzle over
him as Ikeda's wife hands him his swords.
And as Jei and Keiko talk in the woods, a mysterious "call" draws him
away from her; unable to keep pace, she is soon left behind, lost.
Meanwhile, a roadblock forces Ikeda, Motokazu, Tomoe and Noriyuki
from their original road; as they fight their way past a second roadblock,
Ikeda's old leg injury allows one of the attackers to escape!
And, "much further south," Kitanamono examines the object he took from
Usagi, and Jei finds the source of his summons.
