This short, 8 page, story opens with Usagi and Genosuke walking along one of Gen's 'shortcuts' through a mountain pass.

Suddenly, Usagi is attacked by a snake, and Gen swiftly moves to slice the striking serpant's head off. It begins to pour rain, and luckily the two find the temple they were looking to spend the night in.

They interrupt a praying ama-san (nun), but she grants them refuge for the night. In the night, the abrupt ending of Gen's snoring startles Usagi, and Long-ears notices Gen walking towards the ama-san. She summons Gen towards her, and he ignores Usagi's questioning. At the last possible moment, Usagi attacks the now-hissing witch and she leaps onto the wall.

Usagi forcefully wakes Gen, and the witch transforms into a huge snake and attacks the two. During the ensuing battle, Gen spears the snake's body to the wall, and Usagi slices its enormous head off. The story ends with Usagi yelling at Gen: "You and your stupid short-cuts!"
