After an astounding display of skill, a street busker asks the gathered
crowd the show monetary appreciation. One of the onlookers is Miyamoto Usagi,
who stays and chats to the young woman, who introduces herself as
Kitsune.
Later that evening, Usagi finds himself somewhat short of funds. This
is somewhat unfortunate as he has just finished eating and has an inkeeper
waiting for his money. Usagi gets quite some time to contemplate where his
purse could have gone while washing the inkeeper's dirty dishes.
Nearby, a gambler has far too much luck for his own good and leaves the
owner of the gambling house somewhat disgruntled who sends his retainers
after him. The gambles flees to a nearby inn, pounding on the door, admitted
only when the timber gives way. Usagi, roused from his sink, firmly asks
the retainers to move outside, then 'escorts' them out when they fail to do
so.
The gambler hires Usagi as his bodyguard and they make their way toward
the outskirts of town. There is something familiar about the gambler however
Usagi cannot imediately place his finger on it. Stopping to chat to
Kitsune, Usagi is once more set upon by the retainers of the gambling
establishment. Kitsune helps in the battle and the men are soon beaten off.
Usagi suddenly remembers where he saw the gambler previoulsy - the kite
festival! The gambler realises this too and makes his way seedily from
Usagi's chasing sword.
The following day, Uagi again bumps into Kitsune and after a brief
conversation, the two go their separate ways. Kitsune, watching to dwindling
form of Usagi suddenly finds herself short of funds - laughing, she
realized that me must have stolen his money back.
