Usagi continues his story. After six months, Usagi had yet to pick up
a bokuto and had feared that he would never learn anything about the martial
way.
Quite unexpectedly, Katsuichi began to systematically beat the
daylights out of Usagi. Initially, Usagi thought the old man's mind had
snapped, until logic led him to the conclusion that he was being trained to
be ever aware of the presence of danger. Eventually, Usagi was no longer
taken by surprise, and training began in earnest. Katsuichi lectured
Usagi on the way of bushido as well as training him with the sword;
teaching him the use of weapons while tempering him with the arts and
philosophy.
Many more months passed and Usagi's skills grew until he actually
struck his sensei. A proud moment for Katsuichi, seeing the culmination of
his efforts finally paying off.
