Walking in the mountains, Katsuichi continues to teach Usagi the
lessons he will need to know. Learning being one of the most important
things one can do, striving to learn something new each day.
While walking, the two are interrupted by a group of ruffians who proceed
to make fun of and 'share' the lunch of Katsuichi. When the old man tells
them to be on their way, they turn nasty, and Usagi, quick to defend his
teacher, shows he still has much to learn in the art of diplomacy, boasting
of his sensei's prowess.
Taken prisoner by the ruffians, they demand that Katsuichi
prove the boy's boasts. The leader of the thugs sticks an umeboshi seed
stuck to Usagi's nose, demanding the old man cut it in half. Instead, he
cuts around the boy, killing the leader of the ruffian group standing behind
him. With their leader dead, the others flee.
Usagi and Katsuichi return home, Usagi showing he has a lot to
occupy his mind. Perhaps control was the lesson his sensei was trying to
teach him.
