In many of the issues of Usagi Yojimbo, Stan takes time out in the "Letters to the Editor" section to explain in detail some of the elements of Japanese Myth or History, or some background on the making of a story, that appear in the comic.

In many of the story notes, Stan also gives a listing of the books he used as references in writing the stories!
