Noriyuki has pledged to take Motokazu as one of his samurai, so Ikeda's family should be okay.

Chizu, being the leader of the Notorious Neko Ninja, can't do all of the running around herself, she has other duties to attend to. Besides, she has people for that. Also, she may have been searching her own assigned area for survivors.

According to the Story Notes, only priests and miko (shrine maidens) are allowed in the inner temple, which may be why the Nefarious Neko Ninja ceased their attack once the sword was carried there.
(Then again, maybe I'm just spinning my wheels )
