i, too, was a bit late in getting #60 due to a much needed vacation. but, upon reading it, i was ecstatic. i loved the resolution. i was worried that it would turn out to be some wishy-washy "oh, we're great both great samurai let's call it a day and grab a beer" kind of ending. and usagi's taking on jotaro is a much needed change in usagi's life that i've been looking forward to.

thanks for the great observation that no, usagi really isn't a samurai anymore. it didn't really hit me until i read your response, but yes, he does indeed have responsibilities. he is a father now. and perhaps stan carefully set up that line to allow usagi to realize his responsibilities to jotaro.

i can't wait for #61!

: Hello,

: So, I've got my copy now as well and this means I can join the discussion (am I late or what? ;-)

: The first thing I noticed was that the issue looked more "cheap". I've compared it to the last ones but I couldn't really put my finger on it until I compared it to one of the books. Ok, the paper is grey and not white but also the lines are less exact and much thinner. It looks "sloppy" to me and I always admired Stan for his clean and precise strokes.

: The story itself is calm and of the usual quality even if I'm unhappy that Koji died. I could have imagined so many way to avoid this (they could have fought for some time until they realize that they are so evenly matched that it would be pure chance who wins and where is honor in pure chance? Or Katsuichi could have shown true greatness in conceding defeat as Miyamoto Musashi once did...) so I'm sad that Stan didn't surprise me again with another story twist.

: But two sentences got my attention: "Then you are no true samurai" by Koji to Usagi and "The gods favore me".

: For the first sentence I thought: "Usagi found Kusanagi. Doesn't that make him tenno?" If that's true, then Usagi is in fact no Samurai -- anymore. He has grown beyond the basic needs of a warrior and stepped into the murky area of responsibility (as a lord towards his subjects) where choosing to live or die is seldom something oneself can do alone anymore.

: And as for the gods: We usually think that (one or more) gods created the world. And it really is so that a god favored Katsuichi: Stan Sakai. For the people in Usagis comics, he is god because he created them ;-)

: It's also interesting that Katsuichi didn't gave a direct reply to Usagis question "Does he [Jotaro] know [that I'm his father]?". Stan never gave a hint that Jotaro suspects something but Jotaro is as smart as his father and I think it can be only a matter of time until he gets the clues -- if he didn't already and just plays dumb to avoid dishonoring his three parents.

: And the last thing which I didn't see anywhere else, yet: "I know a priest who was once a warrior" said Katsuichi. Sounds familiar? :-) I'd put my bets on Sanshobo which would prove again that the world is quite small.

: I wonder if Katsuichi will play a role in GC 3...

: Hey, a man can dream, can't he?

: Ok, I'll stop now...

: Have Fun!
