Strokes of Brush and Blade: Tales of the Samurai

This book of samurai prose stories was just released, it's the first of its kind available in English that I'm aware of. https://www.amazon.com/dp/4909473017/?coliid=I2N4SW7CT3GAR6&colid=27BSSPTYW7J3M&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it The publisher is also planning to release a book of vampire ...

UY in a Jeopardy! question

It calls Miyamoto Usagi "Usagi Yojimbo" and Alex Trebek doesn't pronounce "ronin" quite right (I believe it's supposed to have a stress on the second syllable), but still pretty cool:

Re: Blade of the Immortal live action trailer

I watched this on Blu-Ray a few days ago and enjoyed it a lot. I would put it up there with the 70s Lone Wolf and Cub movies as one of the best manga to live-action adaptions (although the unique style of the artwork from the Blade of the Immortal manga obviously doesn't translate to live-action). V...

Re: Blade of the Immortal live action trailer

The manga this is based on was published by Dark Horse, and I started reading it around the same time as UY in the late 90s (Stan and Sergio Aragones actually did pinups for it, but my google-fu has failed to turn up images of them). It's a really cool manga, and this movie looks like a very faithfu...

Blade of the Immortal movie by Takashi Miike

This looks awesome, very faithful to the manga too (which Stan and Sergio Aragones did pinups for when Dark Horse started publishing it in the late 90s, I still have those issues somewhere). It even has the bad guy with two women's heads stitched to his shoulders, which I don't think anyone but Taka...

The Shiba Inu seems to enjoy wearing the armor more than the cats. :D

Edo Superstar: UY-like iPhone game

I've played this a little (was $1.99 on the iTunes store, but I saw a day or two ago that it was free), as a game, it's kind of fair-to-middling so far, but the artwork is nice.

Re: Scorsese's Silence

I saw it a couple of weeks ago and liked it a lot. Was surprised to see weirdo Japanese director Shinya Tsukamoto as part of the cast, also by finding out that it was actually filmed in Taiwan. I'm interested in reading the Shusaku Endo novel at some point, in one interview, Scorsese said that he wa...
