Underated Manga: Mach GoGoGo! by Tatsuo Yoshida

One of the odd things about anime and manga is that sometimes, a franchise can actually become more popular overseas then in its own country of origin. In the case of this particular work, it would become more popular in the United States.......not as Mach GoGoGo! , but as Speed Racer . Now, a littl...

Probably my fav samurai series is Hanzo the Razor. It's like a combination of Yojimbo and Shaft. Gratuitious violence, sexy women, and some eccentric characters make it one of the best samurai series I've ever viewed.

I've already got both books.

Yoshihiro Tatsumi is like the Jack Kerouac of manga. Because of him, we have 'gekiga', where mangaka like Tetsuo Hara, Ryoichi Ikegami, Kazuo Koike, Kazuo Umezu.........and yes, Hiroshi Hirata thrived in the 60s and 70s.

Truly awesome.

Shueisha's "Weekly Shonen Jump" to cease publicati

Yes, it's true . After thirty years of continuous publication, the magazine that was a home for One Piece , Mazinger Z , Saint Seiya , Dragon Ball , Jojo's Bizzare Adventure , and others, is ceasing publication after June 6th. The company explains the action as being due to declining sales. .....Pe...

How do you guys feel about Shirow? I'm a big big fan of his stuff...my only problem with it is that I can't always take the characters seriously because...what's the best way to say this...they're drawn in such an exploitative way. Does that make any sense to anyone else? Otherwise his concepts are...

Oooooh boy, my favorite kind of thread! Hmmm....I've got a few, so bear with me....... Osamu Tezuka- The most obvious one. The man invented modern manga, plain and simple. He was a terrific storyteller whose incredible prolific output and unsurpassed storytelling skills is still unmatched in modern ...

One of my absolute fav series of chambara movies, besides the obvious classics, is the Hanzo the Razor trilogy starring and produced by Shintaro Katsu, who is most famous as Zatoichi. It's absolutely bizarre.......a combination of Japanese exploitation, action films, and samurai pictures. It's.........

I think you forgot someone. Takehiko Inoue, the artist behind Vagabond ......he actually won the Osamu Tezuka Cultural Award about 5 years ago for that one. Rather surprising, since before Vagabond he was mostly famous for drawing basketball manga. Goseki Kojima is definitely a classic, being 1/2 of...

Generally, I like anything that isn't Nashville-style Country or modern Jazz. I like AOR stuff......Journey, Boston, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Toto, etc. I also love the occasional soft rock, like Air Supply. I also love 'extreme' music. Death Metal, Power Metal, Black Metal, Grindcore, Doom Metal, etc....

I'm sure it's already been mentioned, but Omaha the Cat Dancer is my absolute FAVORITE funny animal comic on Earth.

Sort of like an erotic soap opera, and a constantly turning and twisting plot that always manages to turn the entire story on its head.

Plus Reed Waller's art is GORGEOUS.

He produced over 700 manga titles, so this is just one of the many masterpieces he produced during his career.

Underrated Manga: "Ninja Bugeichou" by Sanpei

One of the amazing things about history is that it runs in cycles. Time and time again, the same heroic deeds are done, no matter how much the opposition fights, and time and time again the same evil atrocities are once again commited, no matter how many times we cry "Never Again!". This v...

If I were given the chance, I'd go to Japan in a seacond. Unfortunantly I can't afford it. If I were to go though....there would be a few places I'd have to go to. One of them is the Osamu Tezuka Manga Museum......there is also supposed to be a Go Nagai Manga Museum in the near future. I'd also like...

In the 60s, there were basically two big names in historical manga. The first was Shirato Sanpei (you guys might know him as the author of Legend of Kamui ) and the other was Hiroshi Hirata. As luck would have it, I got to work with both these wonderful artists. I did the lettering and touch-ups fo...
