Sounds like a good game for advanced pupils, but beginners will shortly run out of words (lack of vocabulary), which would only add to frustration and boredom. I don't think so. Japanese is a syllabic language and there's less than 50 different syllables, so it's quite easy to find new words that f...

Have you tried shiritori ? It's a popular word game in Japan. An example ? usa gi (rabbit) - gi ri (duty) - ri su (squirrel) - su go i (wonderful) - i ke (pond) - ke mo no (beast) - no usagi (hare)... :) Could be a funny way to teach some new vocabulary and check the right spellings ! Actually, ther...

A typhoon called Usagi
I'm just back from holiday and I'm a little bit surprised nobody noticed this :
Typhoon Usagi hits southern Japan
A typhoon called 'Usagi' could only be a major tempest, I think.
Didn't hear if the radio and TV journalists pronounced it correctly.

Hey friends ! Don't know if you ever heard of this site : http://www.usagiyojimbo.com/ (it's quite confidential, I know), but it has a video of Space Usagi ! It's 3'41'' long, in HQ (well, at least VHS quality ) and therefore so much better than this crappy little extract from Youtube. (by the...

huh! interesting Cosmo. Um... I like the look of the first one but I'm not understanding the differences in the three options you gave. Are those all my name? so, is there like, 5 different ways to write it? I find the more I look at Japanese written language the more bewildering I am finding it - ...

If there's a Portuguese character in Usagi Yojimbo, he'd probably be a Jesuit missionary. Not a samurai. :) Still, I've read (in Sansom' History of Japan ) that around 1570, a daimyô called Takayama converted to Christianism for this reason : he had defied a Jesuit, Gaspar Vilela, by engaging a phil...

Re: Two random questions
This could mean that Usagi was closer to 12/13 when he first went off to train with Katsuichi. Or that he was younger than we thought when he and Mariko had the fateful picnic lunch...like around 14/15 (if we assume he was about 10/11 years old when he joined Katsuichi). Of course, we'd all like to...

Re: Two random questions
Another problem is that we don't know exactly how much time Usagi spends alone in self-training after the Dogora School tournament. This could be quite a long time. Self-discipline is hard to acquire. We do actually... issue #2 states he spent two months with Katsuichi after the tournament and then...

Re: Two random questions
That sounds about right. Usagi could have left to train with Katsuichi even earlier, like 8 or 9 years old. I don't think it is actually mentioned just how long he was with Katsuichi...only that it was right up to the point where he begins serving Lord Mifune. This matches up with my own thoughts. ...
