Usagi Yojimbo Weekly Trivia Challenge....

Any chance of running a weekly quiz, no prizes required? That was a lot of fun and I wish that we could do more. It could even be a rotating thing where the last week's winner has to post a new question for the following week if you did not feel like having to do it each time. Not sure if anyone else would be interested but I sure would.

Sounds like a great idea and if you want to throw out the next one, we will see how well it goes over. If it is popular enough, maybe I can set up a separate section of the forum to run them in.

I don't mind supplying some prizes, but don't want the responsibility of having to mail them out to the winners every week. These would be small prizes--trading cards, finger puppets, signature cards, comics, etc.

Super!!! Too awesome and generous! As for prizes, it is as you wish Stan, this is your dojo. :) Perhaps we could do just one prize per month for an esp hard question but still do 4 quizzes a month to have fun. Perhaps Stan can decide which quiz is hard enough or be the one who once a month supplies a quiz question to stump the experts! Either way, when one of us sees you at a comic event we can pick up that month's (or the previous 2 or 3 months if it has been that long in-between) prize/prizes and then mail them out to the winner/s. Logistically that does not seem too hard and we can still have a fun quiz once a week.

I will try to get a question up tomorrow. I am not an expert, only having read all the books one time through and going through my second time now! I will try to make it fun but not too obscure.

Steve, do you want to create a new thread for this here or want me to create one or just pose the question here?

Thanks all!
Buck

Perhaps I can offer a solution that may work. It sounds like all the prizes Stan could offer are flat items, so shipping (even internationally) should be pretty cheap. If we do a trivia/contest of the month, I'll cover the shipping costs for the next 3-4 months. If Stan is willing, I can pick up a bag of whatever items he wants to donate at Long Beach Comic Expo and then I'll divide it up into 3-4 prize packs, depending on how much stuff I get (for instance, a big item like a signed comic or signature card, plus a few small things like a bookmark, trading card and finger puppets for each pack). I'm not particularly interested in participating in the trivia/contests, so it's no big deal for me to act as distributor of the prizes and exempt myself from being a winner.

A few thoughts on how the contest could be administrated (just my two cents, so anyone feel free to offer suggestions). I'll let someone else figure out who is going to run the contest each month:

1) The contest runs for a month (I can supply a picture and description of the prize for each month to that month's administrator)
2) Whoever runs the contest is automatically entered for their month to win (since they're going to all the trouble to run the thing)
3) The entrants will PM the trivia answer to the trivia administer for that month and post to the thread that they've entered
4) At the end of the month, the administrator will post a list of all who answered correctly
5) I'll use a random number generator to select the winner from the list
6) The winner will PM me their address and I'll ship off the prize for the month

If I'm able to get some prizes from Stan at Long Beach Comic Expo, we could start the first contest month as soon as March.

This sounds like a good idea for the one quiz a month that has a prize attached to it.

The main idea of doing the quiz is purely for Dojo Bragging rights ( :D ) and just to have fun every week.

Stan generously offered to throw in a few fun, small prizes, nothing substantial at all, just to make it more interesting once in awhile.

Steve and I spoke about this and thought that we could have a quiz each week and each week's winner would be responsible for posting the next week's question. All levels of questions are fine. Folks would PM the person who posted the question their answers and first PM that is correct wins. At the end of the week the winner and correct answer is announced. Makes it easier and it is only for fun and local bragging rights. This would work well for the 3, non-prize, questions per month.

As for the prize question, your way sounds good in my opinion.

I can help you with the shipping costs if you are willing to do the mailings like you mentioned above for the one prize per month.

Thanks!
Buck
