Re: Weekly Trivia Challenge April 11th-April 18th
Oh, I think I might have worked it out, but I haven't got a flying clue or time to be able to find which issue is was. Guess I'll wait for the answer...

Re: Weekly Trivia Challenge April 11th-April 18th
These were my incorrect answers before go gave us the extra hint.

Are you referring to Boris the Bear 1 and Boris the Bear Instant Color Classics 1?
One is B/W and the other is a color reprinting with a different cover.
Do you mean why does Albedo 2 have multiple covers? Steve Gallacci wanted to silk screen the covers to all 2000+ copies and after about a dozen or so he gave up and now we have "variants" of Albedo 2.
Do you mean what was the purpose of having 2 covers to UY 123? It was called Dark Horse 100. Dark Horse gave 10 copies each to 100 retailers. It was basically a free promotion.

Re: Weekly Trivia Challenge April 11th-April 18th
DH UY123 was my first guess. FG UY10 was my second, because the second cover made more prominence of the backup story heh. And then I went for Boris the Bear #1 too heh.

Officially given up. I'm too new to even guess this at this point.

Re: Weekly Trivia Challenge April 11th-April 18th
Dear Readers,
Steve Hubble is our winner.
Here is his entry:
"OK, final guess and then I give up......
Usagi Yojimbo Color Special #1 -
NOTES ON THIS SPECIAL EDITION: Usagi collectors may be wondering about this slightly different edition of Usagi Yojimbo Color Special #1. As it turns out, when our printer finished up the original printing, he accidentally under printed the cover by something like 2,000 copies. In going back to press to complete the print run, we were offered a chance to use a thicker stock and to change the artwork. So we dropped the 16-page color catalog in the middle (as well as the ad on the inside and outside back covers--leaving a nice blank space for Stan to do sketches on at conventions), producing an odd little collector's run of a couple thousand copies.
"
I bought mine when it first came out.
It cost 55 cents more.
I took it to Fanime y2K and Sensei sketched and signed it fulfilling the book's purpose.
Thank you all very much for your participation.
Steve proves (again) one should never give up.
Best wishes to all.

Re: Weekly Trivia Challenge April 11th-April 18th
Interesting. But this is why I asked the question in my first post, as UY #10 came out before the Color Special #1 AND has a "different" cover in the same way (it's just some added text on the front for the second printing). With that in mind, is my answer still invalid?
First print: https://10deb7fbfece20ff53da-95da5b0349 ... cb85_l.jpg
Second print: https://10deb7fbfece20ff53da-95da5b0349 ... f70_xl.jpg
There's also a misprint of #10 I believe that accidentally used the artwork from the Summer Special instead.

Re: Weekly Trivia Challenge April 11th-April 18th
Dear Readers,
The question was:
"What was the purpose of the first comic book starring Usagi Yojimbo with two covers?"
Mayhem wrote:

Mayhem is correct in saying the extra text indicated a second printing which is a "purpose" "because the second cover made more prominence of the backup story ".
Mayhem, i accept your answer.
So we have 2 winners.
When i ran the random number generator, Mayhem won.
I am sorry for this confusion.
Mayhem what do you want us to do about this?
Best wishes to all!

Awesome contest! I didn't know about the two versions. I'll have to check mine to see which one I have. Congrats to Mayhem. Peace, maka

Re: Weekly Trivia Challenge April 11th-April 18th
I only knew about it because I once had a second printing of issue #10, which I then rather stupidly sold once I acquired a first printing. There's barely any shots of this second print online, which it why I think few people are aware of it.Maka wrote:Awesome contest! I didn't know about the two versions. As it stands, I have no issue with Steve still winning, and/or setting the question for this week (which he has already posted) because it's a genuine mistake, and we all make them from time to time!

Dear Readers,
Thank you Mayhem for forgiving my error.
Since Steve has already posted and Mayhem is ok with it, let us continue using Steve's questions.
Is this OK with everyone?
I did err.
Here is a photo of Mayhem's winner.
Best wishes to all!

Re: Weekly Trivia Challenge April 11th-April 18th
So cool! So I checked my comics and I don't have either of these comic special printings. Just the regular versions. This was a cool contest and I learned something new, two things.
. Thanks for the fun! Peace, maka

Re: Weekly Trivia Challenge April 11th-April 18th
That's pretty cool. I have the second printing of #10. I'll have to look for a first printing now.

Dear Steve,
There is still one example sold before all of the great examples you sent.
I wonder if the Dojo should not make a section for Sensei Sakai's variants.
Thank you very much for all you do to make the Dojo a great place.
Best wishes,

1. Usagi Yojimbo v.3 #123 (wrap-around variant cover) - a promotion that DH has been doing called Dark Horse 100. They gave 10 copies each to 100 retailers chosen from among those who entered a contest at DH's retailer website.go wrote: Dear Readers,

2. Usagi Yojimbo v.3 #136 (variant cover) - special variant cover edition to help celebrate the 25th anniversary of Dark Horse Comics.
3. Usagi Yojimbo v.1 #10 (2nd printing) - possibly a small variation in the cover to distinguish the 2nd printing from the 1st printing. (I don't have both first and second printings, so I am just guessing on this one)
4. Usagi Yojimbo Book 4: The Daragon Bellow Conspiracy tpb edition released after the s/n hardcover edition, but with new cover art.
5. Usagi Yojimbo Book 3: The Wanderer's Road s/n hardcover edition was released after the tpb edition but featured different artwork. When the tpb edition went back to press for a later printing, the cover artwork from the hardcover edition was used because Stan Sakai was dissatisfied with the original cover art.
