June Trivia Prize Pack

Stan was generous enough to donate some items for trivia prizes, so now we'll have a little added incentive to participate in the quizzes. Last month's rules seemed to work well, so I'll stick with them again.

So, how does one win a prize pack? Here's how:

*Participate in the weekly trivia as you normally do.
*The winner or winners (such as the Mar 23-30 trivia, which has two winners) of the weekly trivia will be entered into the monthly prize drawing.
*The winners of the trivia that ends during the prize month are eligible (for example, if a weekly trivia ends on April 30th, you qualify for April's prize pack, if it ends May 1st, you'd be in May's drawing).
*As people win the weekly trivia contests, I'll update the list of all the winners (in the order they won) and then use a random number generator (https://www.random.org/) to select the Prize Pack winner.
*I will announce in this thread who the prize pack winner is and contact them via PM for shipping info. International participants are welcome to play along.
*These rules are subject to change on subsequent months if there are bugs to work out. :D

So, for the month of June, here's what's up for grabs:

Image

*Star Wars #1 black and white variant cover signed by Stan Sakai
*The Witcher #1 variant signed by Stan Sakai
*Star Wars #2 variant signed by Sergio Aragones
*Usagi finger puppet 5-card set signed by Stan Sakai
*Comic Book Legal Defense Fund card signed by Stan Sakai
*Mystery item - I was making something for this but in the final stage of finishing it yesterday I accidentally ruined it, so I'm starting over and will update once I get it done. Maybe this week, or perhaps next.

Weekly winners:
1. go
2. Gaffey
3. Trevis Woods
4. Maka

Okay, it's a bit late in the month, but here's what I was working on. The mystery item is an Usagi chop drink coaster that I made out of natural tigerstripe wood/fiberboard. It's not perfect, but it's the first time I've tried making something like this and was the best I can do with my current skills. I sealed it with clear sealant, so it should be water/soda/sake resistant.

Dear Jabba359,
The coaster looks great!
Would you mind sharing how you made it?
Did you use a Spyderco knife?
Thank you very much for your time.
Best wishes,
go

I made it with a CNC machine that I just got. Since I have no idea what I'm doing, I was trying to think of a simple design to practice with. I have my Usagi chop tote bag hanging right next to my computer and I glanced over and realized that would make a great test image. This is actually the third one I tried (the first two failed miserably) and wasn't entirely a success. While it machined all the design just fine, I didn't set it up correctly to cut out the logo on the outside, so I ended up having to cut and sand the outside of it by hand. So it was looking all nice and I went to lacquer it (to make it water resistant) and as soon as I brushed it on, I could tell something was wrong. My lacquer had gone bad and it looked like it had little crystal grains all over the surface. So I had to let it dry and sand it all off by hand which is a bummer because my "by hand" sanding isn't really great and now the milled insets aren't perfectly flat anymore, but have some waviness due to my inability to sand perfectly flat. Funny you would mention using a Spyderco, because that's exactly what I used to scrape off the lacquer in the tight corners where my sanding bits couldn't fit.

At the end of the day, it turned out okay. Not great, but not terrible. So whoever gets it shouldn't feel bad about putting their beverage on it, as it's not a piece of art. 8)

WOW!!! I'm so STOKED! I bought the STAR Wars comic but mine was not signed by Stan, the man. Go recently gave me the finger puppets (thank's Go!) but I these again are signed by Stan! And a one of a kind Usagi Drink Coaster!!!! I promise to put beverages on it. :) Crazy goodness! I do not own the STAR Wars 2 Sergio comic yet. I thank Stan and Kyle for your generosity and all your wonderful people who made this possible. It's fun to play and it's great to win. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Peace, maka
