Hello, friends! Ten years ago I got to be a part of The Comics Journal's 300th issue, a big book of conversations between cartoonists of different generations. It gave me the chance to not only meet Stan Sakai (one of the best storytellers in our medium, and one of the kindest) in person but gave me pretext to pepper that meeting with every question about my favorite series, Stan's then-25-years-running Usagi Yojimbo, that I could conceive.
Comic Journal transcribed that talk, but I've been sitting on the recording itself for the last ten years (no real reason why; never really thought to post it). I figured I ought to make it public this week, since I'll be hosting "A Conversation with Stan Sakai" at HeroesCon this weekend in Charlotte, NC, Sunday at 1:30.
If you're an Usagi fan like me, and haven't read the transcript (and even if you have, it's been ten years), you're in for a real treat. If you've got questions about Usagi's world and the making of it, there's a good chance they might get answered in this talk. And if they don't, and you're in the Carolinas, I hope you'll come out and ask 'em yourself!
