I had sent in the cover of UY 158. It was drawn on 2-ply, 500 series, 11x17inch cold press Strathmore Bristol with a 10x15.5 image area.

The story is The Fate of the Elders. Usagi has to escort a woman to a distant mountain to reunite with her husband.

Image

Roughs done with 3mm 2H mechanical pencils. I am just using basic shapes to lay out figures. The background was to be some bushes along the riverside and distant mountains.

Image

Firming up the pencils with a 5mm HB lead. I changed the background to some river reeds as it looked to make a more interesting back drop.

The border was ruled with a 3.5 mechanical pen.

Figures inked with a well broken in Koh-i-Noor ArtPen, using the old formula of Badger Black Opaque ink.

Reeds inked with a newer, stiffer Koh-i-Noor ArtPen.

Erased, and some blacks were filled in.

I whitened out a part of a bad guy's sword to push it behind the reed blade to give the scene another layer of depth. Textures added, and the art is finished.
