I'm able to log in with an ID and password I have from another phpBB board. Is that supposed to happen?

Huh? As I understand it, you didn't register but you could still login as "Mayhem"? This should definitely not happen :-/Mayhem wrote:I'm able to log in with an ID and password I have from another phpBB board. Is that supposed to happen?
As I see it, you are a registered user since today (I could get the actual time out of the DB). This of course makes it a bit hard to trace this bug... but when I tried, I could not login unless I specified a valid user and password :-/

Well, if you had a copy of the error, I might be able to help you. As it is, everything seems to be OK, so I think the board works as it shouldAnonymous wrote:Actually I think the board screwed up big time when I tried to register... gave me a whole load of error crap but had actually added my details to the database of users. That's what happened. I just used the same ID and password as another phpBB board I'm on...

Perhaps this board read your cookie from the other board?Anonymous wrote:Actually I think the board screwed up big time when I tried to register... gave me a whole load of error crap but had actually added my details to the database of users. I thought the same thing but that wouldn't explain why he could login: For this to work, there must have been an entry in the user database with his name and password *before* he did register and this wasn't the case or he wouldn't have been able to register.ZenMondo wrote:Perhaps this board read your cookie from the other board?
I think this is the usual "strange behavior confused user" problem where it's hard to get reliable evidence about what happened because the user tried to fix it and when asked what he did, he/she confuses the five things he/she tried into one "Oh, I just..." and that makes it impossible to tell what really happened

I don't remember the full process on this board, but I know on another PHP board I'm a member of, something similar happened. When I registered the user was supposed to receive an email with a link to "finalize" the registration (to assure a valid email I guess). Well, my browser (or connection I forget which) half crashed during the process and my user id got added to the database but I never got the confirmation email. Thus I couldn't use the account and I couldn't make a new one as all the old info was still there. If he can log on with the info he wants, then take it as such, otherwise, wipe out the old account and re-register, what is what needed to be done for mine.
