Why did Mariko lie (of omission) to Jotaro?

Thing is, they both know now. The complicated part, from a "don't leave them TOO long like that Stan, please!" viewpoint, is that neither of them know that the other one knows!
So Usagi knows Jotaro is his son, but doesn't realise that Jotaro knows this too. And vice versa.

With a breeze comes a storm, but then you'll all be washed away...

Howdy,
Master Katsuichi also knows the truth about who knows what, but he didn't say anything to Jotaro at the end of the "Fathers and Sons" TPB either. If Lady Mariko is to receive any condemnation for making Usagi and/or Jotaro suffer, then Master Katsuichi should be the recipient of an equal amount of anger for the exactly the same reasons.
I think Master Katsuichi stayed mum because he didn't think it was his place to meddle in the relationship between Jotaro and Usagi, no matter how well-intentioned he may be about it. As close as he is to both samurai rabbits, he still isn't family.
Unless, of course, the external constraint that prevents Mariko from telling Jotaro the whole truth is not Kenichi at all, but Master Katsuichi! WHAT IS MASTER KATSUICHI HIDING??!?!?!??!!
Or maybe I've been reading too many conspiracy theories lately.
I also remember that Mariko told Usagi to leave at the end of book 6. Any reason for doing so would also seem to apply to not telling Jotaro that Usagi is in on the big family secret.

Ok, everyone feels bad for Usagi and son, but doesnt anyone feel bad for Kenichi?
I mean come on. His childhood rival becomes a samurai of distinction where as he loses. His wife loves Usagi and gives birth to Usagi's son.
Kenichi raises his rivals son as his own, and everyone wants Jatoro to be with Usagi insted of Kenichi.
Usagi may have been the birth father, but Kenichi raised him. So I think he should get the same respect. After all, fathering a child is easy, raising him takes a real man.

His childhood rival became a swordsman of distinction, but he is still a ronin and a member of the losing army of the battle that put the current regime in power.MikeM wrote: His childhood rival becomes a samurai of distinction where as he loses.... MikeM - feeling bad for Kenichi.
Kinichi, on the other hand, had the responsabilities of becoming the headman of his village thrust upon him unexpectedly, and has apparently taken the job to heart.
Stan has yet to go into the history of Kenichi and Mariko's relationship and the conditions which led to their engagement. I can not recall it being mentioned that they were engaged prior to Usagi and Mariko's last "picnic".
I, for one, would love to see "Kenichi's Story" told.
Abayo.....

Yes, I would too. That would be cool. Perhaps from early childhood, going past learning Bushido as a child/teen, then how he met Mariko and finally what happened when Jotaro was born. Hehe, that would be cool.Steve Hubbell wrote:I, for one, would love to see "Kenichi's Story" told.
Perhaps, Stan could tell of this, when, one day, Kenichi and Usagi meet up, and for some reason (bad weather? thrown in jail?) they are stranded together some where and they get "talking" about the past... hehe.

Or better still, have Usagi captured by Hikiji and have his fate left in the hands of Kenichi, who is now the District Magistrete. Now that would rock.chickrockguitar wrote: Perhaps, Stan could tell of this, when, one day, Kenichi and Usagi meet up, and for some reason (bad weather? thrown in jail?) they are stranded together some where and they get "talking" about the past... hehe.

Haha. Yus, good one estee-san!
... And so, in the cells, Kenichi starts talking about his past etc... blah blah blah, and then as he's telling the story, he seems to get more pissed with Usagi (mostly about Jotaro), and decides that he's better off with Usagi out of his life, forever. (*gasp*) So he arranges for Usagi to be killed.
Mariko pleads with her husband to let him go, but to no avail (Kenichi feels that with Usagi gone, he can now be a real father to Jotaro once again - He doesn't know Jotaro knows, right?) BUT! Jotaro hears of his and rushes back to save his father... and arrives just in time.
Kenichi then brakes down and says he did it for Jotaro. Jotaro is angry with him, but Usagi says he understands (like the nice guy he is), he did it for his son, etc... so Jotaro softens... and things go from there...
Okay, I rambled! Sorry!

I don't think Kenichi would be dishonrable that way. Kenichi and Usagi were friends at one point, weren't they? It would be nice to see them come to an 'agreement'.chickrockguitar wrote:Haha. Yus, good one estee-san!
