Ronin and Gunslingers.

Are the Ronin of medeavel Japan comparable to the Gunslingers of the American west? Sergio Leone` thought so. Isn't "A Fistful of Dollars" a direct lift{or "tribute"?} of Kurosawa's "Yojimbo"? Toshiro Mifune strides into town, the lone gunfighter{or, in his case,swordslinger}. And Clint Eastwood does the same as the "Man with no name". The eternal "loner",relying on only his guns/swords and his wits. This makes for some great cinema! And of course, a great comicbook!! I wonder if Sakai-sensei likes westerns? I like some of them,but,I prefer the adventures of the "Bushi" of Nippon. And here's to the continuing exploits of our favorite Ronin Rabbit! Long Live Usagi Yojimbo!!!! Ja,mata dudes!!!

Stan has always held that Ronin for hire like Usagi and Gen are parallel to gunslingers in the Old West. Have you seen the Magnificent Seven? If so, go out and rent Seven Samurai. If not, go out and rent both!!

But, have you seen Battle Beyond the Stars, a Roger Corman film starring Richard Thomas. It took the Seven Samurai into space. Robert Vaughn, from Magnificent Seven, even comes back as one of the hired (ray)gun-slingers.

Sakai-sensei; Yes I have seen "Battle Beyond the Stars". It also has Sybil Danning{RRRuff...RRRuff!!}. It's a nice little effort, but, nothing tops Kurosawa. Ja mata.
