ISSUE #67 OUT! SPOILERS INSIDE-READ FIRST-THEN COME CHAT

Post by Akahige »

Alright! Part 2 of "Sumi-e" is really good, lots of action. Sesuke's mystical abilities are wild! Loved the arrow zipping around trees, etc. to its' target. Lucky for Jotaro he met Chizu, eh? Good ingenuity on his part. The painter's servant, Nenenki, is of the same "remote mountain people" as Kitanamono. Hmm. Maybe there's some sort of ancient bond between them and creatures of mystical power, that they're forced to serve them. Awesome giant kappa! And I was right, a certain giant monster did show up in this issue (I won't give it away)! The scene of Sesuke summoning it was eerie. Clever way they defeated the kappa. Can't wait to see how this concludes! Fun!

Kappa

Post by go »

Dear Readers,
Is this a really a Kappa?
Where is the water on its head?
I realize it is a magical drawing.
Perhaps the evil artist decided to leave out the Kappa's vulnerable point.
If you are interested in Kappa you may enjoy the "E.T." like movie (appropriately named) "Kappa" from Japan.
Here is a fun link with more about them (including Kappa farts, etc.):
http://metropolis.japantoday.com/biginj ... paninc.htm
Any guesses on who the big monster is?
"G"?
I really enjoyed the sketchy drawings as Jotaro came back to consciousness.
I also loved the photographs on the back cover.
The only thing I do not like is waiting until the next issue is released!!!!
Thank you Sensei Sakai, Shogun Todd and everyone else for the fun.
Best wishes to all,
go

Possible SPOILERS to #68 Below!!! Read at own Risk!!!!

The monster DID bear a resemblance to Gamera. Which makes me wonder who the next monster will be. Go, in your email you mentioned Godzilla. Well Stan did say he planned on bringing Zylla back to UY for a guest appearance... maybe he'll be back??

Issue was great, only thing I didn't like was the cliff hanger ending!

I figure Jotaro won't die, but for a second I thought, what would happen if he did. Usagi would have to go back to his old village and friends and tell them that Jotaro died! That would be so hard!!!

Definately a good issue, can't wait for the next! Great work Stan!

Paul

PS Doesn't Mark Evanier look like Fat Elvis? lol for once i saw a decent picture of Sergio, I always wondered what he looked like after seeing his drawing of himself in some of his other comics.

That Groo pic on the back is awesome. I took about 10 pics of the Groo panel while sitting next to Gorden Kent. That one really depicts the personalities of the Groo Team... a lucky shot indeed.

Am I correct in assuming that Stan's only job on the Groo comic was creating the title block, right?

Stan actually letters the entire book.

He also finds time to make the occasional guest appearance. He can be found in the crowd or even walking alongside his fellow gamblers. Just look for the Usagi Yojimbo emblem.

Yes, the giant Kappa was Gamera. I tried to tie the Japanese monsters with Japanese folklore, and since both Gamera and the kappa have turtle shell backs, they were the most similar.

The giant centipede in the first part were those bugs from the opening scenes from Rodan. Of course, a modified Mothra also appeared in the story.
