If we are talking existing characters, it's a toss up. Sanshobo or Inspector Ishida (BTW - not listed in "The Cast") has to be some of the best characters in comics today. LOVE EM!

Niccolo mentioned another visit from one or all of the TMNTurtles, of which I will never argue with

Sorry for my necro-posting, but we've got the same problem with Toda's identity on the Polish Dojo right now (and the discussion unfortunately became a bit heated). So I decided to address Sensei directly with this matter. And I didn't want to create a whole new topic for such a petty issue.

So Sensei Sakai... which animal represented Buichi Toda before he morphed into that gruesome goblin? Our bets are that he was either a cat or a human.

I deliberately hid his face, just to make the reader wonder what he really looked like before his transformation.

Of course, if Sakai-sensei is inclined to give them the same dispensation as foxes (mystical, myth-wrapped critter, BUT ALSO valid "character race"), the way is clear.
I can't help but think of Tom Robbins' novel "Villa Incognito" when I hear Tanuki...He COULD be a very interesting character...

I wouldn't mind seeing a walrus returning as an anthropomorph to the pages of UY...they're so distinctive, and awfully imposing (although not exactly a native animal of Japan).

For a look at a Tanuki clan including a pretty intimidating wizard, check out Stan's contribution to Dan Brereton's "Nocturnals: Troll Bridge" published by Oni Press in October 2000.

Since there's the komori ninja covering the air, the mogura ninja underground and the neko ninja on top the only environment left is the ocean. I'd like to a group of otters as a marine based ninja clan.
