Nature of Kotetsu (in Grasscutter)

Hello;
I just re-read "Grasscutter" - superb. I was then reminded of a question, namely: what is the nature of the witch Kotetsu? It is apaprent that she is, somehow, different, not only in using magic - I note that her speech is represented by italics. The only other character with a font set consistently differnet, is Jei, who, indeed, is very peculiar ...
Also, when Kotetsu dies with her familiar, she is transformed into feathers, which must count as rather odd. So, what exactly is she? Does she correspond to an element in Japanese folklore?

No. She is a character completely out of my imagination. I wanted her demise to be a bit spectacular and out of the norm, mysterious. So, the feathers.
