Salutations all,
New to the dojo, but figure I make my appearance now before I get labeled as junk. I'm an over the road truck driver and sojourn all around the United States. My isolation to the world is dreadfully robust, so my posts and catching up's will be remiss.
I come by way of finding Usagi by a complete accident and a reminiscing moment in part of the said accident. I write in my free time and down time when I can, and when motivation serves me well to do so. Thus far I am a fan-fiction writer with a few original ideas done, under my belt, and thus far, received good reviews from them. I mostly do this for one to help my literary skills, no thanks to Florida Public schools showing me how to get by with poor english through my life. I can tell it doesn't work and now I am relearning things on the fly.
But digressing; my accident happens to be an original character of mine that resembles Usagi only by form of a rabbit, and culturally from Japan. Where the standpoints change is in my characters dialog, being closely linked as a Ninja than samauria, and he happens to be a lop eared rabbit. The funny bit is his name is "Lopper," but don't let it fool you. How Lopper helped me find Usagi was I had nagging thought after awhile that I have seen a character somewhat done like this before. TMNT came to mind, a faster research and whalla! A ronin rabbit.
I'm struggling to put him in an original plot and story, away from the fan-fiction series I have him in now. My resistence happens to be in the form of Usagi, just by wanting to make Lopper different. So you might see me on here asking in depth questions from time to time. But from then on...here I am. Please accept my cordial introduction from the road, here, in Texas at the moment. I'll post links to my stories much later, if need be, however for now, I must depart and head for Oklahoma City and beyond with weather permitting.
Mauser
P.S. My fan-fics are based off of "Sonic the Hedgehog," but more so Knuckles' side of the isle. I'm currently trying to finish the second novel and "begin" work with the third. But I can't help the unforeseeable delays.

Welcome to the Dojo, Mauser, and good luck with the fan-fiction. Once you get around to posting links to some of your work, maybe some of the more artistically talented members here can work up some illustrations of Lopper from your descriptions.
In the mean time, if you want to learn more about feudal Japan and/or Japanese culture, just grab up some of the Usagi Yojimbo trade paperbacks and dive in. Stan Sakai does an amazing amount of research to help make Usagi Yojimbo one of the best comics around, and not just b/w or anthropomorphic either.
Hope you have a safe holiday season on the roads, or better yet, that you can make it home in time for the holiday.

Welcome to the Dojo; I'm looking forward to reading some of your stories.
I have to admire you for having an awfully tiresome job like truck-driving and still being able to come up with writing novels.
With the best wishes for the road, X-mas, and the coming new year.
Thomas

Hey, thanks all, sorry for the postmortem reply. Could have done it Christmas, but was on a deadline to get out of the house after posting a few links to my stories, stated from above.
Again, thank you. I just received a collection of comics in one of the cataloged books. Interesting how the storyline to the whole arc seems to flow, but places the readers in different situations every issue. Can't wait to save up to get more. Real nice companion for the road. I'm actually one of the few truckers that doesn't have a T.V. in my rig. Ever since I started writing, I see very little use of an idiot box than just to turn me into one (except the news!)
Roger that...okay; y'all have a cool new years. Home now and enjoying it while I can for the next few days, then it's back to my "ronin" ways. I was wishing I had returned in time, you see, I practice Konigun Ninjutsu when I'm home or well enough to do it. But my Dojo has limited times of training. Alas...my road weapon happens to be a six foot bo staff. (Really wanted a Ninja To!)
Carried a Glock in another life I fondly wish to revisit, Goandal, but never really want to own one. My life is in high dollar. Guitars, motorcycles, boots, and weapons. An H&K is on my wish list. So is a new Gretsch and Triumph Thruxton 900.
And so is college!
