My MegaCon pickups

Post by Takeda Shingen »

Hello all. It's been quite some time since I've been able to post, but I've tried to stick around in reader mode.

I am surprised to see that there are no threads showing off their Usagi scores from MegaCon.. Seeing that we're a few days removed from the Con, I figured it's a fine time to start.

I was able to add some art to my collection, starting with this piece.

Sensei was also kind enough to do a nice sketch for me..

Don't bother the master at work....

Here's what he turned out:

And of course, I'm going to save my favorite for last. I still can't seem to find the tribute book that this is from, but this has to be my favorite piece of Usagi art....possibly ever:

I liked it so much that I made a larger version to use as my desktop wallpaper at home and at work.

Added to my two pieces from last year, it's about time I thought about starting my own gallery. Thanks for looking!

I'm not sure how long Usagi would want to hang around with the Thing. The number four is considered unlucky in Japan, y'know!

Yes. Four is "shi", which also means "death". Just as US hotels do not have a 13th floor, Japanese ones do not have a 4th floor.

I think the Mega-Con sketch I was awarded off of this board (thanks to John and Stan) is on it's way so I will post it when I receive it.

Can't wait!!

All of those are great! I really like Usagi with the Thing!

However, I thought Stan wasn't giving out sketches anymore, because of dirtbags selling them on ebay. Did the policy change?

No, it's still the same. I paid him a bit to do this one. Well worth it.

How much does a sketch cost, usually?

I do not speak for him, but in my limited experience...for a finished sketch such as what I posted, it usually starts at $100 plus another 50 per additional character (not counting the tokage in my case). Just a rough guideline, I'm sure sensei takes other things into account, and of course he is the best and only judge of what to charge for any particular drawing.

Sketches of the quicker variety such as Takeda Shingen's, I don't know.

(I hope it's not too improper to speak of these things  )

All of my finished/inked sketches started at $100 and went up from there. I think $135 was the most expensive of the bunch.

The quick sketch that Mr. Sakai did for me at MegaCon was $20. I supplied a backing board and he sketched the scene out for me.

All were more than worth it, if you ask me :)

Hope that helps.

$100 or so sounds like a good price. Especially since it's custom-made artwork.
