In case Stan needs any musical inspiration for a new Space Usagi story, here's an mp3 of the main theme from Message from Space:

I think that something like this would work pretty well as theme music for a Space Usagi movie. I would enjoy it a lot if it had a kind of retro-70s/80s feel. I remember reading a book on Japanese cinema that criticized the music from Message from Space for supposedly being a ripoff of Star Wars music, but I like it.

Well I feel more stupid than normal, I call myself a Stan fan and have been completely unawares that there is in fact SPACE USAGI.
Totally awesome, so it's his descendent huh? Is it all blasters or is it like a guy clinging to bushido in the future? I'm trying to picture it in my head, I keep seeing Blade runner and Blind Fury going through my head for some reason. I'm pretty anxious to find an issue or even the whole trade books if I can!

There's a little of both, actually.Mr. Horrible wrote: Is it all blasters or is it like a guy clinging to bushido in the future?
It's not much like Blade Runner (I don't know what Blind Fury is, so I can't comment on that). I'd say that Space Usagi is closer to Star Wars. It has a lot of the same "space opera" flavor as Star Wars, but at the same time, it manages to feel fresh and original. The last Space Usagi series ("Warrior") also reminded me just a tiny bit of the anime movie Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind.Mr. Horrible wrote:I keep seeing Blade runner and Blind Fury going through my head for some reason.
You can get all of the Space Usagi material published so far in one volume from Dark Horse. Amazon.com currently lists used copies starting at about $7 plus shipping:Mr. Horrible wrote:I'm pretty anxious to find an issue or even the whole trade books if I can!

If you see any of the original Mirage issues of "White Star Rising" (the second Space Usagi series) for sale anywhere, you should probably buy them since they're in color (everything in the Space Usagi TPB is reprinted in B&W). There's also a short Space Usagi story ("Under the Same Sky") in color included as a backup story in the third UY Color Special.

GROOVY, I'm gonna go buy that. I thought this post was a joke at first, but it sounds cool!
Blind Fury is an.... okay.... Samurai movie. It's like a lame Zatoichi, starring Rutger Hauer as a blind samurai bodygaurd to a kid.
Give em' a break now, it was the 80's and everyone was making "okay" movies.
