Question for Stan...others might know also - Re: Cover Rough

I posted this question in another thread, but hadn't heard back from anyone on an answer, and I'm very interested to find out, so I thought I'd post it here in the main forum and hope for the best.

I saw the cover rough for the upcoming UY #119 wrap-around and just love it! I was wondering if Stan ever sells any of the cover roughs via mail or at conventions? I'd be very interested in adding this one to my slowly growing Usagi art collection...it's just fantastic! They both are, but I just like the humor of the rough version

Anyway, if Stan has a moment and can fill me in, or if anyone else knows, I would greatly appreciate it...here in this thread or via PM.

Yes, I do sell cover roughs. In fact one was resold on eBay just a few months ago--I think it was the rough for UY 89's cover, which I sold at a convention in June.

Not all covers have preliminary roughs, though. In fact, most of them do not.

However, I am not selling any covers, roughs, or major pieces because I need them for a couple of upcoming art exhibitions.

Thank you very much for your reply! I'm sorry to not get back on here sooner, but we've had Hurricane Ike evacuees staying with us (my in-laws, 4 dogs, 3 cats, 11 birds, and 1 chinchilla) and I've been a little scattered. Hopefully things will be getting back to normal soon.

Also, if this preliminary rough does ever become available, there is definitely a buyer lined up for it

I won't have an exhibit in your area, but I think I am coming down to Austin in early March for Staple. I think it is March 7. I'm not sure of the exact details. I'm also doing a signing somewhere in Austin on the 6th.

Oh wow! You're coming down for Staple...that's great news! I've been able to attend most of them since they started and it's a fun event! I'll definitely make sure I am in town for it this year.

And yes, Austin is a great place for restaurants. I'm not sure what type of restaurants you like the most, but if you give me a few ideas, I can definitely come up with some suggestions. I don't know if next year's Staple will be held in the same location that is listed on the website for the 2008 one, but if so, it was only a few miles from where I live...I know the area fairly well and have many restaurants that I enjoy in the North Austin area.

Austin is a great city! I hope you enjoy your stay, and I'd be more than happy to assist in any way possible...even if it's just to recommend dining options

Wow, I didn't know you were coming to Staple either, yeah, there's several good restaurants here in town. If you have a specific type of food you'd like to eat while in town there's a bunch of options. I dunno how many people are here, but could we do a dojo get-together here?

That would be amazing! I'd love to know how many other dojo Austinites there are anyway...curiosity and all that

Excellent! I live in San Angelo, which is a few hours away from Austin. I hope that I'll be able to make it. I hope the place where you do your signing is somewhere close to the University since that's my favorite part of Austin and there's lots of interesting stuff around that area. When I was there a couple of months ago, I saw the manuscript for Kerouac's On The Road at the Harry Ransom Center at the University (On The Road isn't really one of my favorites [The Dharma Bums is a Kerouac novel I like more], but that was still pretty neat). If you ever get a chance to see the bats come out from under the Congress Avenue bridge at night, that's pretty fun (for more information on this, look at this site: http://www.batcon.org/home/index.asp?idPage=122 ).

It's not too hard to find good food. The last time that I went, I was a little bit surprised to see sushi restaurants all over the place. One really fun place to go is the Alamo Drafthouse, where you can order food and drinks during the movies, and they sometimes show cool 70s movies and stuff like that along with newer movies.

The idea of trying to drive in Austin scares me a little bit (big city driving can be a bit intimidating for people like me who learned to drive in a small town), so hopefully I'll be able to find another way to make it there (every once in a while, I tag along with a relative who is a better driver than me).

If they keep the same location as last year, it will be north of downtown off I-35 (I think). I think they were over west once or twice. The one I went to was south of downtown, I don't think they'll be on the university campus since there's not really good usable space there plus parking is terrible. There's a great botanical garden here in town too and it has a few mementos from Oita (the Japanese sister city for Austin).
