I don't know if there are any films based on Date Masamune. I saw a 52 episode NHK television series of his life starring Ken Watanabe about 25 years ago.
Here is an Amazon link to Kage no Gundam season 1:
Almost every episode ended the same with Shinichi Chiba and his ninja group attacking an enemy's mansion, and killing everybody inside. Still they were pretty fun to watch.

Don't worry, you're not crazy. There was a samurai named Watanabe Ken. He lived under a bridge with his son Ichirozuke in The Pride of the Samurai (Issue #73).
I have to admit, I've always wondered if Hikiji's only desire is just to be the Shogun. I know it keeps his character simple, but I've never seen Hikiji as the "Sauron" type, although he's an obvious inspiration.
At the end of the day, as cunning as Hikiji is, he's still only human (pun intended). Does he have other motives besides ultimate power?
