Stan-- would you ever consider selling your intellectual property for $60 mil?

Or does the fact that you have been the only artist/author working on Usagi (while Laird pretty much had Dooney, Lawson, Murphy, Lavigne, Brown, Berger, Jones, and some others my old brain can't pull up at the moment doing pretty much all the work) make a difference in wanting to sell like that?

Apparently, they're planning a new CGI tv show to go along with the new movie thats coming out in 2011 or 2012. I grew up with Nickelodeon, I'll say that, but I hope they stay true to TMNT.

As I commented on Peter's blog, I think $60M was too low, but there you go. I hope the status quo isn't upset too much by this deal, as I've been reading TMNT longer than I have even Usagi...

I think people have to take time once and consider some points before they are writing about this deal and peter laird....
I read comments ranging from 'how the hell could you just do that'...'I need my conclusion to tmnt vol. 4...you HAVE to do it...' to 'I think this is a too low deal for a property such as tmnt'....
think about it...teenage mutant ninja turtles has been nearly half of peter laird's and kevin eastman's lives!!!it is a celebrated phenomenon around the world and to keep up with it is more than a full time job...to say that they OWE the fans any more material out of the wish to see how it all ends is a selfish statement I think.we have to keep in mind that tmnt is not just a comic book but a beloved movie series, several tv shows and toy lines and so on....
the responsibillity to maintain true to the roots was in their hands all these past 25 years...for all of it's incarnations produced by all the people around the globe....as I understood from peter laird's blog it got to the point that all this machinery wore him out he didn't even draw anymore..his passion was gone..and he felt it comming for years....
and now think that the price to get out of the trouble and get back your own joy is not really that important...at least not as important as the chance for himself to reastablish his happiness...
just my thoughts on it....
but a question to stan:
do you ever wonder how many great stories are you going to tell with usagi?I mean every month there is just a great one delivered and it seems that your sources are unending....I absolutely love the paths the ronin rabbit wanders...I am just wondering because of this tmnt selling..

Peter Laird retained the rights to publish up to 18 TMNT comics a year. No TPBs or anything like that, though. Thing is, he's so burnt out on TMNT at the moment that he doesn't know when or if he's going to take advantage of that. So, after the may issue of Tales of the TMNT (#70, I think) there's not going to be anymore TMNT comics... at least for a little while.

That's actually the whole reason I'm here, though!

As the TMNT comics are coming to a close and there isn't that much back-stock that I haven't already read and/or collected (and no future TPBs), I was looking for a new book to pick up! Then I remembered that one day a few years ago I was buying a bunch'a back issues of TMNT when I came across a lone issue of Usagi. I picked it up as well (because I recognized him from TMNT) and gave it a read and really liked it! Thing is, I still concentrated on TMNT after and figured, "If I see anymore Usagi laying around at the store I'll pick it up."

Never did find anymore Usagi laying around. So, in light of TMNT coming to a close, I decided to venture online to find some Usagi to read. I've got what seems like zillions of stories to catch up on, but that just means I won't run out for awhile!

I have been asked by a couple of people what would I do in Peter's situation. It's like comparing apples (me) to a ton of oranges. I can understand his wanting to find "that guy" again, though. Fortunately, in my case, "that guy" still likes to write and draw Usagi.

Would I sell Usagi if I had a viable offer? You bet I would because that would leave me free to develop an even better series that I have in mind--the adventures of a samurai cow in feudal Japan: Moo-sagi Yojimbo!
