A "what if" question
Hi to all. I was re-reading the story "Samurai" where Usagi tells Gen his backstory and it got me curious. What if Usagi had gone to the Dogora school as planned instead of training under Katsuichi? I don't just mean how good his swordsmanship would be, though I wonder about that to. I mainly wonder how Usagi would have turned out as a person, since Katsu obviously had a pivitol role in shaping his character. So where do you think Usagi would be today if he never met Katsu? Skills, character, the whole nine yards. Any ideas?

I think instead of finding out about his own strengths( when he stroke katsuichi for the first time after all this time has passed) and juggling to develope them and to put them in effect whenever the situation really approves of them he might have had a constent quarrel relationship with kenichi...that way his true strengths such as his patience for example may have stayed unfound/undeveloped.....
it's funny because this very moment I am sitting on my new carpet next to that very same great book two that I wanted to reread after checking on the dojo;)...

Thanks for the reply, I agree with what you say. It struck me that without Katsu Usagi may never have learned discipline, based on how he was as a child I assume discipline is not natural to him. I also doubt anybody at Dogora would know how to develop his skills to their full potential. I just think it would be interesting to see what kind of person Usagi would be if he hadn't trained under Katsu. I think he was very lucky to meet him! And as for re-reading book two, great minds think alike

hahaha, yes they probably do(think alike..)...
i always found it funny how short the dogora fencing school's masters' (!?!??)thinking process were...they seemed just so jealous and enraged against master katsu that these emotions quickly blinded them...that way their students were easily knocked out of the prestigious tournament...apart from kennichi san, of course;)
i think next up on my rereading list is the great dragon below conspiracy so think of a question to discuss, will you?;)....i do so, too...
peace
