I am in Croatia

Post by Stan Sakai »

It was a bit of a bumpy flight, but I am now in Zagreb trying to find my way around one of these European computers in the hotel business center.

It is warmer and a bit more humid than what I was expecting, but I was told it rained all through last years festival.

Cheers,
Stan

Did a newspaper interview this afternoon, and will do a TV interview very early tomorrow morning.

Then a walkabout of the Zagreb city center, then a signing at 4 PM.

I had veal with mushroom sauce and green gnocchi for dinner. I still have not got a grasp of Croatian food. A lot of it seems to be Italian, some Turkish.

Just got back from dinner with my Croatian publisher. Scampi risotto, black squid ink rice, Adriatic squid, and scorpion fish. Delicious.

Darko took me on a walking tour of the old town. Met two members of the forum today as well.

Pencilled one page. Im not meeting my daily quota. Diana would be angry. Dont tell her.

Im working on the third page now, but will not finish the 8 pages I brought. I would be happy with four (though Diana would not be).

I had a great day. Did three interviews, a signing, and a presentation that went well. Also got a walk arount the Old City again.

Tomorrow, I am being taken to Plit Vice Lakes (sp?). I thought a group of us was being taken, but it is just me. I feel bad they are going to all that trouble, but not so bad as to decline their generous offer.

I went to Plit Vice today. It is an amazing area of lakes and water falls. You walk either on trails or boardwalks over the lakes. Such a beautiful area.

For lunch I had lamb roasted on an open spit. We tried 4 restaurants before we found one that still had some for lunch.

Closing ceremonies is tonight. I check out tomorrow morning to leave for Dubrovnik, so may lose internet access.

Anyway, you will read it all in my travel report.

Going to Dubrovnik in an hour. I had a two page spread in Sundays newspaper. Yes, I did get a copy for you, Steve.

I may lose internet while on the coast, so you probably wont hear from me until Thursday.

Cheers.

we wish you well!;)...funny that you already know to read steve's mind while posting;).....
when I went to croatia with my friend we visited a natural park that reminds me of your description..it was called krk national park, you had to reach it with a big boat going up the river...many waterfalls and people would take a swim in the waters or jumping off the waterfalls...and you would be walking on boardwalks as well...beatiful day....

Stan does know me pretty well!

I pulled up some pictures on Google for Plitvice Nationl Park in Croatia and it looks like an awesome place. A photographer's dreamscape in reality (reminds me of the Roger Dean posters from the 70's, all blues and greens and water everywhere). I am really looking forward to seeing your photos from there.

Just returned. Croatia was incredible. Dubrovnik is a beautiful city. The city center is walled, and the streets are narrow. I am glad I was there in the off-season. I fear to think what it would be like with 50,000 other tourists there.

The people in Croatia is very hospitable. It seems hardly possible it was a war zone just 15 years ago.

Thanks for coming. You made a big impression to all the visitors of CRŠ (Comic convention in Zagreb, Croatia). I guess this is the first time i´ve met a comic-superstar who doesn´t act as one at all. Respect !
