well, I just read stans post somewhere where he reported that he couldn' t find roasted pick knuckles which sounded just like schweinshaxn to me....
I had roasted pig's knuckle in Krakow, Poland, but heard it was more a German specialty.

I ordered it in a little restaurant. I also wanted soup, but the waiter said, "No soup. Just knuckle," and walked away. I'm glad he did not give me soup, because the knuckle was one kilo in weight (2.2 pounds for you Americans). I could not finish it. It was good though. It came with a side of horseradish, which usually tastes very harsh (at least the ones in the US does), but this one was quite flavorful, almost sweet.

Coolray,
I've been to Germany many times, actually. And, in fact, I did have the bayerische schweinshaxe last night. Not so thrilled, actually. I should have gone with the bratwurst or the rahmschnitzel.

The schwarzbier was nice though. :)

Oh well, back to being a gemuesefreund! lol

...yes, they are quite something aren't they?whenever I am ordering one for myself which is mostly on fridays when the neighboorhood's so called 'händlmobil' sells rosated specialtys I love to get into eating it but cannot finish it in one session...the ones I know could be described like that:crunchy on the outside with delliciously tasting crust and soft as butter on the inside with superb tasting meat;)....a nice mixed salad on the side and coke and you got a nice start into the weekend;)

p.s.:I am sorry if this post had little to nothing to do with usagi but I just wanted to answer the gentlemen....

It would be absolutely great to see Stan at C2E2 in Chicago sometime in the future. I know it has only had one convention so far but it was a great convention and I can't wait until the next one.

Though for some reason I think I might actually be in Baltimore for work reasons during Baltimore Comic Con this year.

Is that the "Bay Ridge" schweinshaxe from Schnitzel Haus in Brooklyn? I love that place! (And the Schnitzel Vert in Vienna where I has my first bauernschmaus.)

It's a strange place. The German food is good, but once a week they do a buffet style dinner, and it's in a neighborhood that still has a major Irish and Italian population, so they have thing's like "Chef Uwe's grandmother's eggplant rollatini" and "German Shepherd's Pie".

I didn't know there were so many Wizard World Cons.

January 29-30 2011 – New Orleans Comic Con
February 26-27 2011 – Miami Comic Con
March 18-20 2011 – Toronto Comic Con
April 29 - May 1 2011 – Anaheim Comic Con
May 21-22 2011 – Big Apple Comic Con "Spring Edition"
June 17-19 2011 – Philadelphia Comic Con
August 11-14 2011 – Chicago Comic Con
September 17-18 2011 – New England Comic Con
September 24-25 2011 – Big Apple Comic Con
October 28-30 2011 – Central Canada Comic Con
November 11-13 2011 – Austin Comic Con
December 3-4 2011 – Atlanta Comic Con
TBA – New Jersey Comic Con
TBA – Cincinnati Comic Con
TBA – Cleveland Comic Con
TBA – Nashville Comic Con
TBA – Connecticut Comic Con

For purely selfish reasons I'd suggest Atlanta or Miami, but I've never been to a Wizard World convention.

Anyone interested in seeing who's attending which con, click on the individual cities in the link below.

I went to the Wizard Anaheim con last year (its first year in existence). I thought it was an okay show, but it was definitely focused more on former (& a few current) TV/Movie celebrities. The flip side is that it was good for comic fans who wanted to talk to artists and get sketches.

The location had an adjacent parking lot, but because of its layout it was still a long (but not horrible) walk.

Yes, I live in Brooklyn, in Bay Ridge (which is why I asked about the 'bayrischen' or something like that, as they have a similar word on the menu, which I assumed referred to the neighborhood). The food is quite good, at least to my US-developed palate (though I have enjoyed food in Germany and Austria, so hopefully I have some idea as to what it should taste like), though all of the waitstaff and the chef seem to be from Germany.

People seem to like the one in Philadelphia more than the average Wizard show. I haven't been to that one, though I have been very disappointed with the New York show (the show organized by Reed is far superior if you care to come to New York, though it was very crowded this year). My friends who attend the Texas and Chicago shows always seem to be disappointed.
