Question about buying Stan's OA
Where do you guys get it? It seems like Mr. Sakai is so busy lately that he doesn't take commission requests (or only does them at conventions), and I thought I read a while back that he doesn't sell his original pages.
Is this true, or am I misinformed? I hope it's not true, because I'd love to add some to my collection. Thanks!

Well, he really is busy lately; anyway, if you'd like to buy anything from him, meeting him at a convention (or other opportunities he'll attend) is a neccessity, since he does not do postal orders. Another option would be sending a friend to act as in-between, to pick up an item from Sensei.
Yes, Sensei does not sell his pages, but he does sell his cover art. And, btw, all his sketches and conventional and commissioned art are original in the meaning that he really painted them, "original art" as used here in the forum means something that was used for publishing;

There have been a couple exceptions to the "original art" rule, one piece I believe was given to a Dojo member (Anthony, if I remember correctly, or possibly his father) as a gift and another page was sold after a Dojo member spontaneously made an offer that was too hard to resist.
I own what is real close to what Thomas describes as "original art" in that it is an actual page that was drawn for one of the stories but never used, replaced with another page that featured an alternate outcome to the story.

If I remember correctly, that offer was one Grand for a single page, wasn't it? So, "an offer Sensei can not resist" could be stretching ones budget a little bit.Steve Hubbell wrote:...another page was sold after a Dojo member spontaneously made an offer that was too hard to resist.

Yeah, I'm shocked at how some people have enough to buy so much. Have you seen some of the individual galleries on CAF? It's amazing. I try to stick to pieces that cost $200 or less. I know that I'm giving up a lot of nice stuff, but I can't afford or justify spending more than that (in 99% of the cases). It's a fun hobby, but I have to be very choosy on where and what I buy.
