More updates from Stan's Facebook....

Sharon is breathing on her own now, but says it is a lot of work. Our family knows a bit of American Sign Language, and she has been communicating that way.
Still wishing and praying for Sharon to improve......Stan Sakai wrote: 4 hours ago
Sharon is back on her breathing tube.

Sharon has been breathing on her own for most of the day! When she is awake she communicates a lot better. She has been sedated much of the time.
I've had to cancel immediate projects. Thank you to those clients for being so understanding. Sharon's sister will be coming up next week, so I still intend to do my presentation at the Musum of Fine Art, Boston in the 11th.

No change from last night, though she is back on assisted breathing.
Good news! Still praying for even more improvement.Stan Sakai wrote: 14 hours ago
Sharon has been extubated. I know it sounds terrible. I was horrified when I heard it, but it means her breathing tube has been taken out of her throat, and that's good. She is breathing on her own now. She can't talk because her throat is still raw, but she is slowly getting stronger.

Re: Sharon's health
it's very hard for me to write: I'm not used to write in english, and this situation really distress me.
I didn't have the chance to meet you, Stan, when you were in Argentina, but I feel you like a friend (about ten years ago).
It always softened me the way you talk about Sharon and your kids, I've always thougt it's an example for life.
My best wishes for your whole family!

Re: Sharon's health
Some ups and downs over the last few days according to Stan's Facebook posts.....
Stan Sakai wrote: Saturday
Set back today. Sharon's breathing is very labored, and she is nonresponsive to people. There may be a new lung or chest infection. Please continue prayers.
Stan Sakai wrote: Saturday
Doctors will have to reinsert the breathing tube down her throat. In other news, I had a double cheeseburger for lunch. I haven't had a burger in 6 months when we went to In-n-Out because Sharon had a gift card. I had onion rings with that. How decadent can you get?

We were scheduled for a 18 day trip to Europe in 3 weeks for my 60th (!) birthday. I spent 4 hours canceling it. We should get most of our money returned, which will go a long way towards paying medical expenses. I received a few messages asking if we need financial help during this crisis. Thank you, but no. We've always had medical insurance, paid out of our own pockets. We made sure that was a priority even during the lean years and, as a freelancer, there were a lot of lean years. However, we are so glad we kept it up. This is still going to cost us a lot, but we'll get by fine.
Thank you all for your friendships, support, and prayers. It's a cliche',but that really does mean more than money to us.
That being said, I may ask for donations very soon. Our son, Matthew, is going on a missions project to India this summer, and will need to do fund-raising. Right now, he's just waiting on a few things, including his mother's condition to stabilize.

Sharon is doing better today. She is awake, but a bit listless. But she has been lying on her back for a whole week. They may transfer her to a cardiac chair for awhile later today. It's a big cushy chair that reclines. Her core temp, which went down to 95 F yesterday, is normal now. She fell asleep again. Her color is good. It's such a big difference from when I walked in yesterday morning.

Sharon had a good day today. Her color is good, her breathing is regular, and she gives faint responses to questions by shaking/nodding of her head or hand gestures. So much better than when I first saw her yesterday. She still sleeps a lot, but she is healing.
Her friend Doreen flew up from Hawaii to spend the night at the hospital with Sharon. She arrived at 6 PM today, and will fly back 6 PM tomorrow. They have known each other since kindergarten, and Doreen was maid of honor at our wedding. She also brought a care package from my parents--homemade inari sushi and Japanese fried chicken. She also brought chocolate covered macadamia nuts for the nursing staff.
Stan Sakai wrote: Yesterday
Because Doreen is up here and spent the night with Sharon, I am able to get some mundane, but much needed, stuff out of the way--banking, laundry, and some marketing. Quarterly business taxes are due tomorrow, so will have to get to that tonight.

Sharon continues to slowly improve. Her color is good, and she responds with subtle hand gestures. She is undergoing a blood transfusion now to strengthen her in the hopes or reducing her rapid heart rate. Just before I left, they designated her room as an isolation room, so even I had to wear one of those stylish blue gowns and gloves in there.
You and Sharon have been in our thoughts and prayers all through this rollercoaster week. We have cheished the bits of good news and we have felt your heartache when the news has been bad....Stan Sakai wrote: 43 minutes ago
Sharon has an infection and fever. Her heart rate and blood pressure were very high, but controlled with medication. This is the worst shes been in days. Please comtinue praying and sending good thoughts. Thank you

Sharons heart rate and blood pressure are a little high, but acceptable. Her temperature is back to normal. She responds to questions nicely, and even smiled, which is pretty difficult with tubes hanging out of your mouth.
Stan Sakai wrote: 16 hours ago
They found fluid on the left side of her chest now. They are taking some out now to send to the lab to check for infection. If it is clean, they can take it out with a needle. If it is infected, they will have to insert a tube as on her right side. They are using a needle and ultra sound to take their sample.

The fluid from her left chest appears to be clean. Of course, it has to be verified in the lab. They took out about 750 CCs of the clear, yellowish liquid.
Thank you for your prayers and well wishes.

I am taking time for myself, Mike. Just this morning I discovered a new TV show (for me) on the National Geographic Channel. Mud Cats is about a bare handed catfish tournament. I had never heard of this sport, so watched it, thinking, "How did this get on? Especially on the NGC!" Later I found out it is a series. I'm still watching it now, though I have to leave in a few minutes.
