Grasscutter: A Mini Review

So I just findished Grasscutter.

OH MY GOD. Its was amazing. I started reading it before bed and I just plouged through.

It was so gripping, I couldn't put it down!

I love the way that Stan (as per usual) brought back people from other stories. Thats one of the best thing about reading Usagi, you meet people and they come back. The interweiving was sublime.

That deserved the Eisner, and so much more.

Usagi, in my mind, is the best Samurai comic around.

I love Lone Wolf and Cub, but Usagi is much more accessible. The story telling works better, in respects that even the most calm and friendly story can develop and return. It not all about HijIki's plan.

I've been a proper comics fan for over a decade (which for someone of 21
is a long time.) I say proper, as in, I've collected and followed storylines for 10 years; we all when we were little kids, read the odd comic here and there.

The kind of comic I love, is one written by a talented fan. Where the writer obviously loves the characters and knows what people want to read. An example is Mark Waid. A self confessed fanboy, he writes engaging stories, with heart, but the sort of stuff you, as a fan want to see. And Stan's work is just like it.

Admittedly there is a difference because Usagi is Stan's creation, but Mr.Sakai's tapped the pulse of his demographic. He writes stories that people want to read, with characters people want to read about.

My only gripe is this:

Stan, you're costing me lots of money. I got "Brink of Life and Death" and "Seasons" and finished them straight away and had to get "Grasscutter". And then the next day I HAD to get "Grey Shadows" and "Demon Mask".

You stuff is too damn compulsive!!

I just read this also. It's a classic and Stan is a master of the craft. His artwork and writing never ceases to amaze me.

Welcome to Usagiaddicted Anonymous, Quincy . I already had to buy the issues to keep up to date. But I still beat you: I read 4 books in a day (luckily the Spanish UY books and most comics are pretty affordable around here, or else I'd be broke by now!).

Not to be a one-up man BUT I've owned books 1-7 for a few years, and in this bank of reading I cracked through the lot of them in a day.

I actually felt like getting a bocken and becoming a Samurai.
