Wahoo!!! This is great news

Stop motion animation would be brilliant, but very happy that Usagi is getting a movie (in whatever format)

Will the movie be based on stories published, or a different (new) story?

Will Jei be in it? (hoping)

Any ideas on a release date so we can count down?? :D

Well done and good luck with it!

I don't spend as much time on here as I used to. That being said this is my first time seeing this and I'm very excited!

Hi guys, I'll try to answer a few questions that dojo members have been asking. Keep in mind these are all tentative plans and things may change.

UPDATE on SHORT FILM
@Maichan
-We are still in post production on the short film and hope to release it by July. After the premiere (if we have one) We will release it on youtube with dojo members getting a first viewing of it first.
-DVD with extras will soon follow for purchase with majority of proceeds going to Stan and Sharon

FEATURE FILM QUESTIONS

-@Steve Can't give too much details but Feature Film deal is similar to being optioned. I am aggressively looking for financing to get it made with Stan's final approval.

-@Mayhem Feature Film will be similar to "Corpse Bride" rather than "Wallace and Gromit" in that we will use puppets rather then claymation. My short film will pale in comparison to the feature film and will look 100x better. Once we get funding it will probably take three years to produce.

-@Maka Thanks for the well wishes and vote of confidence. Just to note my credentials, I've been in the movie industry for over 15 years and have worked on big budget movies. I've also had the great opportunity and experience to work closely with directors storyboarding their films.

-@Mr Redgie The goal is to make it stop motion with some CG especially if there's going to be huge battles. Story is still being written but it will be similar to how Peter Jackson's LOTR and the Harry Potter movies were filmed. It will be based on Stan's stories but we will need to change it for theatrical release. The movie will definitely have the essence of Stan's stories though. I want it to be very true and have the tone of Stan's stories and I think I've been able to prove my intent with the figures that we've created with Roku Toys.

-@Todd Thank you and I will definitely be calling for the dojo's help.

Thanks again everyone for the vote of confidence and keep your fingers crossed that we are able to make this Feature Film a reality. A film made for fans by fans. A big "thank you" needs to go to Stan for giving me this great opportunity. As I mentioned earlier we are aggressively seeking out financing and hope to get started by end of this year or early next year.

My original plan was to have some sort of small premiere for the short film in SF or SDCC and yesterday after speaking with Stan we will have the premiere of the short film at SDCC. Woohoo. Should be a fun 30th anniversary for Usagi.

That is AWESOME! Another great treat to celebrate the 30th anniversary! Thanks for the updates, Roel.

(I remember you work in the movie industry from Stan's post when you gave him a tour of Skywalker ranch. I don't remember if Sharon went along. In any case, I know that the movie is in the right hands. Good luck securing funding!)

I know someone made a timeline for Usagi before and it was pretty close to Stan's vision. Does anyone know who created it and if it's been updated?

Maybe Cosmo?: http://www.usagiyojimbo.com/forum3/view ... i+timeline

(There also seems to be a timeline in the UY Roleplaying game. Maybe someone who has access to one could scan it and forward it to you. ) EDIT: never mind, the Timeline below is a more detailed timeline which Todd and his crew edited down for the Roleplaying game. Use the one below.

Here's the one from the old Usagiyojimbo site: http://usagiyojimbo.com/other/time.html From this thread: http://www.usagiyojimbo.com/forum3/view ... i+timeline

Hope that that helps.

Peace, maka

Which makes it slightly at odd with the previous discussion Cosmo and I were having in the thread, with that timeline making Usagi a year or two older than we envisage.
