Anime Play DVD

Post by Stan Sakai »

Anime Play magazine came over to my studio on Friday to tape an interview for a DVD. Each issue comes a DVD. There will be a short interview, then a segment of me drawing (and coloring). Besides the DVD, there will be an article on me in the magazine. Another artist is also interviewed, and there will be a few other features. It should be available in late August/September.

The DVD in one issue that I have contains interviews with Scott Morse and Jim Mahfood. It also has coverage on Otakon, interviews with Cosplay participants, a walkthrough a Japanese Cosplay store, and anime trailers.

Excellent! Thanks for the heads up on that. I've seen that magazine in the local Suncoast Video store. I'll have to make sure to get a copy.

Of course I have to ask, what were you drawing? I suppose I could just wait and see it :)

I don't know how much of the interview will actually make it onto the DVD. They filmed for about an hour (with an additional 1/2 hour setup).

I'm working on UY 79 right now, so I showed the process of creating a comic--story outline, thumbnails, pencils, and inks. I also showed some of my color pieces--a cover, signature plate, print, and the new poster for the Madrid convention. Then I did a quick drawing of Usagi and Spot, doing pencils, inks, and colors.

Just a heads up, that issue of Anime Play is out! I picked it up today at my local Suncoast Video store

It was very cool to see Stan working and discussing Usagi. It was amazing how quickly a rough sketch came together as a fully formed drawing of Usagi. Great work Stan!

For what it's worth, there's lots of other cool stuff on the DVD too. Check it out!

Forgot all about this until today... went and bought a copy at the local Barnes and Noble Bookstore.

Did I get a weird actin' DVD with mine or do other peoples disc have little "blackout" fits during the parts of the Stan Sakai interview where various pieces of art are being shown? It seems like a skip but the audio does not cut out also. It did not do it during any parts of the actual interview footage or the footage of Stan drawing.

Enjoyed the interview in the magazine as well as the DVD interview. I have to admit that I was suprised that Jennifer Contrino contributed to the magazine but did not conduct the interview with Stan.

Abayo...

Bad Disk?

Post by go »

Hatamoto Steve,
My Sony plays Sensei Sakai's demonstration movie perfectly and yours should too! I think you have a bad dvd.
When I push the main menu button for Ghost in the Shell 2 the Sensei Sakai movie plays. There are no black blocks on my copy.
I advise you return the disk and try again.
My wife who is an artist watched the video and really enjoyed it.
Please see this little movie and you will be inspired.
Best wishes to all,
