What is Usagi's robe/shirt called?

Post by OnitsukaTiger »

What is the technical term for the blue shirt that Usagi wears? It looks kind of like a gi that's been tucked into his pants but it seems lighter and more flexible to me than a gi.

Also, has there ever been a comment from Stan about the black dots? Are they part of the fabric pattern or an indication of the fabric's texture?

Hello OnitsukaTiger, I cannot tell you what type of shirt exactly usagi is wearing but I may have a helpful view on the dots...as far as I have read Stan talk about the dots in Interviews he chose them because they nicely add to usagis visual appearance in the black and white world of his comics.you have to remember also that they not only balance out usagis look but they are easily instantly recognizable for the reader as well...so, a successful Part in his design :)
I dont think they are meant to be part of the fabric of usagis gibt, but that is merely my own Interpretation. ..
Welcome to the dojo by the way!

I think you are correct. Also, Stan never draws the points when painting Usagi in color. So, I think it's really to add texture to the black and white version.
