How do the Dojoboard Rankings work?

Post by Spam Musubi #7 »

I was just wondering how the ranking system on the Dojo works? Is it based on the number of posts one writes on the site? Maichan has over 1000 post and is still a Shugyosha <Student Warrior>. I know this is silly and doesn't really matter but I was just kind of wondering how many different titles there are and how they are achieved?... I guess what I'm really asking is " Can I be a Tokage, woodcutter or Mole Ninja?" :D

- Your humble Mole Ninja, Tokage, Woodcutter

P.S. I love the new look of the Dojo.

I think the old website had a list of what the rankings meant. But they don't apply to post counts, they are merely there to indicate people have been promoted and do "jobs" for the community.

And given the admin panel has gone walkies for now, I can't check the list of ranks people can have either heh. Oh yes, I can, I found a way back into the admin panel heh. Not obvious though!

But Steve got made Taisho for being the overall forum admin in the past, I was promoted to Daimyo when volunteering to admin as well (although I suspect my previous SDCC shopping trips for Europeans added to this!), and Daniel was automatically made that rank when joining. Todd is obviously the Shogun, and there's a special rank of Sensei naturally for Stan.

After that, there's ranks of Hatamoto, Kunoichi, and Shinobi. I think the first was for people who contributed to the site in other ways, maybe the site design or content. The other two, I'm drawing blanks.
With a breeze comes a storm, but then you'll all be washed away...

One of our past members wanted to his ranking to be "village idiot." Todd made it happen! That cracked me up.

Unfortunately, the old link to the ranking system doesn't work anymore. Here is back ground from Todd

"The ranking system here on the DojoBoard reflects the current ranking system employed by the Dojo for the past 8 years. For more info on how you can rise in rank, check out http://usagiyojimbo.com/membership/join.html

Also check out http://usagiyojimbo.com/membership/retainers.html for a listing of the current Officers and Retainers of the UYD. We're always looking for new talent. If you're interested in contributing to the site, let us know! Master Ziritrion and Lord Digulla are always willing to recruit new retainers for the Shogunate. Remember, you are not only in the service of the UYD, but Sensei Sakai as well!

Musashi's rank was specifically made for the UY DojoBoard, and having a "Village Idiot" was such a great idea we just had to make it happen. It has nothing to do with him being an active poster on the board, and will probably be a one time thing. Rank increases as a result of the number of posts were voted off the island long ago... as pointed out, unnecessary posts will serve to clutter up the board and make it less appealing to serious posters."

2. Shogun : Todd Shogun, creator and Web Master of the Usagi Yojimbo Dojo.

3. Taisho : Members who host satellite/mirror sites of the Usagi Yojimbo Dojo or are involved in the production of the UY Comic and have contributed to the Dojo become eligible to be appointed as UYD-Taisho.

4. Daimyo : Members who contribute webpage work AND outside work to the Usagi Yojimbo Dojo become eligible to be elevated to the status of UYD-Daimyo.

5. Hatamoto : Members who contribute webpage work to the Usagi Yojimbo Dojo become eligible to be promoted to the rank of UYD-Hatamoto.

6. Shinobi : Members who contribute outside work (non-webpage work) to the Usagi Yojimbo Dojo become eligible to be initiated into the secret ranks of the UYD-Shinobi. (This rank is equal in status to the rank of Hatamoto.)

At one point I was working on the Cover Gallery and Letter Transcription sections. That's how I received my ranking. Those transcriptions were a pain in the butt.

I found a way to log in as well. Not quite as convenient as having the link on the front page, but it works....
