There is no real translation for "village idiot", since that is a western concept. However, you can make a literal translation.

"Idiot" in Japanese is "hakuchi" or, more common, "baka".
"Village" would be "mura". A "villager" would be "murabito" (literally "village person"). So, I guess "village idiot" would be "murabaka" (village + idiot), or "mura no baka" ("idiot of the village").
stan's tranzlation.

so, what will it be todd, murabaka, or, mura no baka.

personally i like mura no baka, but you cant trust the opinion of someone who calls himself idiot.

your call,
musashi.

Hey musashi, congratulations on your rank promotion ;) . Murabaka sounds catchy indeed.

However, as new shugyosha enter the Dojo gates, be prepared to abdicate from your title if someone dares defying you for it... You must be ready! Fight with honor and courage, and don't let them take your rank...! Or something :P .

There will only be one Mura baka...the Town Odd-person (as Usagi so eloquently put it in one episode). Unfortunatley, such a rank could be considered lower than a Shugyosha! Careful what you ask for!!!

Well, I imagine murabaka must be at least one step up from eta. Corpse-handling caste! Eeeeuw! (Remember, fellow shugyosha-- kill 'em, but don't touch 'em).
