So I just picked up Usagi Yojimbo: The Special Edition. Is this the same thing as buying books 1 thru 7 separately or does the story continue with the individual books? What comes next the regular books or the saga books?
Have any Usagi books been made in color or is everything black and white?

Re: Book Question
Hi Oak,
Welcome to the Dojo!
The Special Edition prints the entire Fantagraphics Books run of Usagi, Books 1-7.
The Dark Horse Sagas pick up where the Special Edition leaves off. The Sagas collect Books 8 and on, three books in each Saga edition. Saga 7 comes out in October and collects Books 26, 27, and 28.
UY Book 30 was released in July so will not be collected in Saga 8 for a few more years, after Book 31 is published.
The early editions of the individual Dark Horse books are sold out and pretty expensive, so the Saga omnibus books are a good way to catch up on your Usagi reading. However, they are bulky and heavy to hold for long periods.
There were a few Usagi stories in color, but many of them have been reprinted in black and white in the collections. There were 4 Color Specials, Yokai (an out of print original water colored graphic novel), and miscellaneous stories that appeared in various anthologies such as Dark Horse Presents. Usagi was a color comic book series when it was published by Mirage, though they were reprinted in the collections as b/w.

Re: Book Question
Thanks for the info Mr. Sakai. Long live Usagi!!
I remember some of the comics were color when I was a kid so that clears that up. Would be nice it some of the future books were color though just for the sake of the kids. My children who are only 7 and 6 seem to be not as interested in the black and white after getting into other graphic novels which are full color.
Guess Usagi will be just for dad until they get older. Im having a great time reliving these stories.
