There's probably a very good explanation for why cancellations are taking long. For the convention to have their insurance policy cover the cancellation, it has to be "forced". If the convention operators cancelled too far ahead of time, the insurance company could claim that they cancelled before it was certain that coronavirus was going to force the closure, so it was therefore the convention operators' choice to cancel and not due to the imminent circumstances, so wouldn't be covered by the insurance. That's my speculation and I've heard similar reasoning for other delayed cancellations.

Yes, It’s mostly from an insurance perspective, if you’re told to close, it triggers certain clauses.

The 2021 cancelations/postponements have begun. Megacon in March has rescheduled for August 12-15, 2021. Not looking good for Heroes in June.
