25th Usagi Yojimbo Dojo Fanzine

Post by Maka »

Dear UYDers,

I finally sat down for two nights to read the UY Dojo 25th Anniversary Special Fanzine. It took two nights because there is so many contributions and articles. Steve said he was working on this for about a year and it shows, in the best of ways. The other anniversary UYD anniversaries were cool, but this is the best one by far. The magazine size format, the glossy print, the over 100 pages from various fans, the stories, and the art. Just amazing. Well done, Steve!

Here are some quick thoughts:

* Great cover and back cover.
* Having Julie introduce the zine was the perfect start.
* I loved seeing some friends contribute to this.
* I loved learning some of the background stories of foreign publishing. Being fans, bringing Usagi to your countries, and winning awards!
* I really liked the three fan fiction prose stories. Well done!
* All the fan art was great to see in print at this size.
* I loved the interviews of Stan & Todd.
* Great to include longer comic stories from Randy and Ivan.
* I loved Chucks find the hidden pictures art. I found them all. :)

I'm truly impressed by everyone's contribution.

Steve crowdsourcing the funding of this was brilliant. That's why this book looks so gorgeous. Thank you all for making this happen. Thank you all for being a part of the Dojo! The best fan community on the internet.

Peace, maka

You said it well Maka! I agree with you!

I still need to sit down to read everything, but I enjoyed Randy Clute's story with some characters that reminded me of some characters we all know and love...

And I did do Chuck's hidden picture game. That was fun, and some of the items were difficult to find, but I found them all!

I enjoyed Julie's introduction. I'm so glad she's part of our big family!

And I noticed that you Maka, are so special that you got thanked in the credits twice....

Ha! I am special.

Steve asked me to write an article but the editor much had had leave it out due to editor’s wisdom. Maybe the 1st credit was written before the article was cut and then they missed when Steve was thanking people who donated to the crowdfunding of the zine. Regardless, I do feel special! 😊

I asked Steve about the repeated credits when I was proofreading everything before it went to print (and we both still missed a typo  ) and he said the multiple credits were for people who donated/contributed more than once.
