Seeing Kodo perform tonight...

Post by Steve Hubbell »

Konnichi wa,

Tonight's the night... :D

A few weeks ago, I bought tickets to take my nephews to see Kodo perform at Miller Auditorium at western Michigan University.

From all the reviews and everything else I've heard about them, they put on a fantastic show and I am looking forward to seeing it. I even put off watching the DVD I had bought so as not to ruin the effects of seeing them for the first time.

So how was it??
I saw Kodo maybe 7 years ago, when I lived in Ohio. It was a great show! I really enjoyed it.
Since I've lived in CA, I've enjoyed watching several area taiko groups perform, including the excellent San Francisco Taiko Dojo. While Kodo is the top of the line that I've personally seen, taiko groups are just so much fun to watch.

Konnichi wa,
The concert was great, maybe just a bit shorter than I expected, but probably more than long enough for the guys playing the drums.

It is near impossible to describe the impression of perfect synchronization as they play, the energy and power that they put into each drum stroke - even when playing slow or quietly - not to mention the absolute control of each stroke, the the impressive physical condition which all the members appear to be in. I just don't have the words to describe it.

I can say that both my nephews and I enjoyed it and the concert was definitely worth every cent. I do wish that I could have met the members after the concert.
