the only serious alternate reality book I can think of right now is Philip K. BADWORD's The Man in the High Castle
"BADWORD's" ?! When the heck did this start happening? Rather than leave people with the impression that Strongbad's literary cousin wrote diverse works of speculative fiction, I will indicated that the true last name of the author is a common short form of 'Richard', beginning with a 'd' and ending with an 'ick'.

I'm not sure I catch your meaning so in part of your post.

Even the less informed are able to participate, no worry there. Participation isn't just telling about bout things but, asking about things as well. So participate away, if you want to. Ask away about what the topic is and I'll do my best to inform.

On a side note, I hope I am not making the forums too grim with this section on a series that deals with important and very serious issues. This is by far the most pleasent forums out on the internet and I'd hate to spoil it.

I like to talk about interesting things here as discussion unfolds intelligently without 'flaming' or meaningless posts.
It's not like I really have anything to add to this discussion (except to mention the Lord Darcy series-- fantasy/alternative history)-- but what you bring to this forum-- which I've only been exposed to since Jan-- is way better than these posers who keep hacking into it with pics of bathroom stuff as well as porno promos.

I only wish I was more informed in order to participate in some of your discussions!

I am reading the 7th book in the series now where the North and South are still at conflict. It is the 1930's. It is called Victorious Opposition, 3rd book in the second trilogy. and it is much better than the two book before it. I've come to the conclusion that unless one has an intrest in this alternate story, to finish it from How Few Remain up to whatever book will finally end the series, they should not get into the second trilogy too much. As slow the two books preceding this one are, (Blood & Iron, The Center Cannot Hold) both those books are neccesary reading to get a grasp of most that follows in this book and most likely into the next trilogy. And knowing the writing style now Turtledove has, skipping over any books or even chapters would ruin the impact of what he has prepared before hand. And this author throws in some really big suprises once and a while I must say. These three books wich make up the American Empire Trilogy are the politics setting up the next trilogy.

After this though I am going to take a break from this series and author.

I enjoyed the first WWII/Reptile Aliens series, WORLDWAR, immensely. Yes, it WAS silly, very, very silly. I loved the way he played around with historical figures and events and really twisted things around.

The follow-up series, set in the 60's, was a whole lotta "so what?" It was interesting enough while I was reading it, but it didn't to me amount to much.
