That's hard to say. With 83 issues (including Grasscutter 1 and 2), Dark Horse would be difficult to beat. Of course, you can't beat the classic Fanta storylines like Samurai!, DBC, and Circles. Plus the Mirage issues looked great in color... perhaps there isn't a best read out of any of the volumes, maybe they should be looked at collectively. (oh yeah, let's not forget the pre-UY Vol 1 days of Albedo and Critters....)

man, so much to choose from :D Dark Horse is probably easier to get so maybe i'll start there. is it necessary to start at the beginning because of plot holes i wont understand?

Nah. I don't think so.

I'm still kinda new to Usagi Yojimbo myself. When I started reading I began at the collection book "Travels With Jotaro". There were a few things I didn't understand, but it only made me want to go back and read the others more.

I have yet to read the beginning of the series. Collection books 1-7....But I'm working on that one.

You can start just about anywhere, the only thing I wouldn't recogmend starting at is the second part of the Grasscutter books. You'll want to read those from the beginning.

Usagi rules.
'Nuff said.

I started on the earliest book i could get at my comics store - Book 6 and later got other ones, mostly from Dark Horse, i have books 2, 6 and 7 from the 1st publisher.

Look for Space Usagi book, i got that early and it helps alot without giving any of the story away as its a one off special (of several comics)

I just got the Space Usagi HC today. It's definitely a great book. Very cool to see Stan's interpretation of futuristic samurai

I'd have to say I prefer the Fantagraphics editions.

Don't get me wrong, I love Grasscutter and the like from Dark horse, but the fantagraphics editions are a little bit mroe....rewarding....though I think that's becuase it takes so %@^%$ long for them to get to the bookstore!

I myself love Volume 3, mostly because it was the very first one I read.

I would take a back seat to Peter any day.

If you live any where in the Philadelphia area, Peter and I will be at Anthrocon in early July.

Well, you take time out of your busy day to read this lowly cartoonist's work.
