Hanafuda

Post by Maka »

Hello UY Fans,

I know in the past Mr. Sakai has asked this fan base if we had any wishes for storylines. We know from the beautiful (and sold out) UY sketchbook that stories are plotted out months in advance. But if I could have one story idea become a reality in UY world, it would be to see a character playing HanaFuda.

Growing up I visited my Grandma in Hawaii every summer. We would always play hanafuda and she would always beat me. She is now very old, can't hear, move or remember very well. But she is still the sweet spirited woman who personifies the Aloha Spirit (can you tell I love her?). I have a small "hard card" deck around the house that I take out once in a while and remember those good times.

Hanafuda seems to be created around the 17 century (See link below) so it doesn't seem to conflict in UY universe. But I don't know if UY would be bothered by such games. :)

If nothing else, it's a great game. The art is beautiful. The rules are simple. And two to many people can play at once. Has anyone else played it?

Peace,

Maka

I used to play hanafuda as well. I've been wanting to do a story with this card game for quite a while. I bought a book on it about 10 years ago.

Sharon's grandmother for a while had a job of pasting the designs on the boards. She was approached by gamblers to mark the deck before packaging. She did not go along with it, of course, but it might make an interesting plot of an Usagi story.
