We definately will be using Karma in the video game (mobile/ PDA).
Memory limitations are still very restrictive on these phones, so Karma
points/pickups will be gained by defeating enemies and rescuing hostaged, villagers (by defeating enemies). These hostages will not be part of the game story, but be for the player to explore and find.
We plan for players to use Karma point to completely replenish your energy levels in the event you get too low.
As I mentioned before, these phones ae very memory restrictive so we will be making 3 games that span the one story.
The story will follow closely the comic's. If people are interested, they can email me on info@c4-digital.com and I will send them the synopsis for the first game.
We'd love for fans to get involved with the story, any input is very valuable. Stan has final approval over all text

regards

Paul

Will we be able to run the games using a standard Java runtime?

Mmmm... yeah, that'd be cool :D . You could ask Gabe and Tycho over Penny Arcade for that... Although what I'd really love to see is Usagi, Gen, Tomoe and everyone else dressed up as Sailor Moon characters... ;) . Now that'd be nice  . Or perhaps having Usagi dressed up as Neo, entering into lord Hikiji's fortress and kicking lots of BADWORD, and on the final battle having him transforming into super-Saiyan... Man, staying up awake until late is not good for your mental health... ;) .

Paul Mitchell from C4 sent me the synopsis (or rather the prototype, as it's not the final thing) for the first game. It looks realy nice, although it changes a little bit from the original story line. However, I don't think that it will affect the gameplay at all :) .

If your phone is able to run J2ME (Java for embedded devices) programs, then it probably will. That means that if you have an "old" phone you won't be able to play it. For example: the Nokia 3330 has games, but it won't run the UY game because the phone is not able to run any Java games. However, if you have a Nokia 7650 or any newer phone, then it will. I'm pointing out Nokia phones because those are the ones I know, but most phone makers (Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Samsung, Alcatel, Siemens, etc.) have Java phones, although they're usually a little pricey. Also, I should say that I'm speaking of European market phones, so I don't know if the same models are avaiable in the US, since the cell phone systems are quite different (but I'm sure there are Java phones around).

I hope that helped :) .

Let's just hope that a Java emulator comes out. Oh, right, and can run Usagi, duh.

That has to be the best idea I ever heard  i love the idea and support it fully. I was thinking about something like it a few days ago. I like your idea on that you should start out to fight for your swords.

Wow you guys definately have some very good ideas.

The part about Karma was in the original UY game was great and it can be developed further with regards to positive and negative karma for certain actions, with karma utilisation for special samurai type fighting moves or feats (from one strike killing blow in combat to recovering health or charm villagers in interactions). Karma below a certain level would yield different reactions from villagers, prevent certain actions (just like light and dark forces in Star Wars).

I also like the idea where you can travel from town to town and freely exploer 3D environments and interact with people and objects. I don't know about you but I have always wanted to chat with the monkey woodcutter and his wife! :D

It was basically a set of HTML pages with an explanation and some links with actions. Depending on the actions, you got karma and were directed to the next page.

It was based on the story "Fire&Ice". My problem was: 1. It was a copyright infringement and to avoid trouble with DHC, I took it down. 2. I ran out of ideas for alternative paths, so it was quite boring.
