Just to stir up the topic. I want to add a name. When last seen, Sasuke was also looking for Inazuma / Jei-San. Seems to me that could promise to be a very interesting story when the two of them finally meet.

3) Sasuke will return, but not for some time. I have to clear out a bunch of other stories first.

4) See previous answer.
It has been 60 issues since Sasuke started looking for Inazuma / Jei-San, and when last seen in Sumi-E, 30 issues ago, he still had not found her.

Whow,
What an impressive list of characters likely to be seen in that fight:

Gen, Inukai/Stray Dog and Usagi to actually fight Inazuma/Jei (I think with the three of them it could almost be a draw), Sanshobo to drive Jei out of Inazuma's body and Sasuke to (finally? we'll have to wait and see...) kill the evil Demon Jei....(who, if not Sasuke could do what the sword Grasscutter could not?)

Does anybody want to bring in Chizu?!

Or Kitsune (......hm.....Nah!)??

Maybe we'll even see Toady again...

Let me throw in another player.. The Lord of Owls. He's probably the most unexplored, mysterious character in UY. How does he fit in with the Jei mythology? How can he NOT fit in???? :D

The Lord of Owls is probably the only character (besides Usagi) who has the slightest chance of matching Jei in terms of pure combat - although we haven't had a real demonstration of his fighting skills yet.

But I won't deny it...the fanboy in me loves the idea of a Jei/Lord of Owls smackdown. I'd take it over a Jei/Sasuke fight scene any day.

I agree with Todd, Lord of the Owls has always fascinated me, mostly cause we know nothing about him. I really hope he gets more coverage soon.

And man, how awesome would a Priest Sanshobo exorcism be? All the colorful dialogue from the first movie would never make an appearence, but it would still be rad.

GREAT ISSUE, and the action sequences were brilliant, though...

[SPOILERS]
I don't understand why Jei allowed Gen and Straydog to live. Is he/she expecting them to bring Usagi to him/her?

I guess that would explain why they were able to match Jei in combat for most of the issue. Jei was toying with them.

[/SPOILERS]

Interesting stuff, and I always love the pairing of Jei and Keiko. I'm expecting the next issue to be even bigger. Can't wait!

It's sad, but I'm almost disappointed that issue #100 is coming up. I don't think I can deal with a month of not having a regular Usagi story (particularly with this plotline developing).

Thanks for the review Shaxper but next time maybe you can put "SPOILERS" in the heading so it doesn't spoil anything for anyone.

Yes...especially for those of us who won't be able to get our mittens on the issue until December 4. That's the date my local comic store owner's given me, anyway. :(

See, this is why Bermuda isn't the best place to be an Usagi fan...

Well, Germany is't that good either; I think I'll have to wait untill X-mas...   :?
At least you've got good weather to wait in, our days in good old Europe are grey and filled with rain or even worse; to quote or favorite rabbit: "I don't like it when it's cold!"

Spoilers below...

The only thing I can think of for Jei/Inazuma leaving Stray Dog and Gen as they were (either dead or alive, it probably didn't matter), was Keiko alone in the rain. Other than that, allowing at least Gen to live so that he may tell Usagi is a possibility...Jei kept mentioning its "mission". Perhaps it was too focused on hunting down Usagi to bother with two bounty hunters who are skilled in their own right and combined could pose a threat. Guess we'll have to find out in upcoming issues! Hopefully all this leads us up to a new story arc featuring Jei and some of the previously mentioned characters like Sasuke, Sanshobo, the Lord of Owls, etc. Flashbacks to the origins of the Jei demon would be an awesome bonus feature!!!

What gets me is that Jei itself appears oblivious to the fact that it is actually Inazuma. Perhaps it's aware of the body it's possessed, that it is a woman with unmatched sword skills, but has no idea exactly who she was or even what her name is, until now.

Another thing that grabbed me was Jei's hesitance to entering a temple, almost out of fear...as if Inazuma herself were speaking from within, of the ordeal she had at Sanshobo's and subsequent possession by Jei. Quite interesting. This almost suggests a melding of the two, like Inazuma's still there in some way, subliminally. Perhaps the demon doesn't completely take over but merges with the host. Why it doesn't acknowledge the Inazuma identity however, confuses that theory...

Just a couple thoughts conjured up by your theories...

Maybe it is Inazuma herself who intercedes on behalf of Stray Dog and Gen, rebelling against Jei just as he has the upper hand and bringing about an inner struggle which causes Jei forget about those two while he subdues his enemy within.

Has Jei ever been in a temple, besides at the moment when he initially possessed Inazuma? Could the fact that Inazuma was in a temple at the time she was possessed be of any significances?

As I said, just a couple thoughts.....

Thoughts to add on to those last two thoughts:

It looked like Jei watched Inazuma relatively closely shortly before inheriting her body. I had always assumed Jei had planned to make her into a backup host, but maybe I was wrong. It's possible he was taking an interest in Inazuma for some other reason that inadvertantly intertwined their destinies, and it's also possible that he never caught her name. Still, I find it hard to believe that Jei wouldn't notice he's inhabiting a new body, nor that Keiko is calling him "Auntie" now. Jei is strange, but not that strange.

Anyway, I've been wondering for a while now whether or not Jei's previous body was his original body. Is Jei an ageless soul that passes from host to host, or was he always in that body prior to his unexpected defeat? On the one hand, Jei had moments early on where he would be sleeping peacefully and then suddenly appear possessed, implying that he was haunting a host's body. On the other hand, he was "killed" because 1 - he was concerned with the well being of someone close to him and, 2 - was fighting someone with superb swordsmanship. It seems unlikely to me that he would have encountered such a combination before. I wouldn't be surprised if that had been his first defeat.
